Clutch chatter??

Anyone else have the clutch chatter / shudder problem with their 5-speed 2001/2002 proteges?? There was a thread a couple months ago about this, but no one has mentioned it in quite some time. If you don't know what I mean by clutch chatter, then let me explain. It's an intermittant problem that seems to be occuring more and more. It happens in 1st when releasing the clutch, just at the friction point... the car starts to move forward but then it's as if the clutch is sticking and the car shakes quite a bit... I push back in the clutch and release it again and then it's fine. I brought it into the dealer last week and they told me that others have mentioned the same thing, but they have no fix for it. I mentioned that the miata had the same problem and that there was a TSB for it... but they still didn't do anything.

Oh no...
I suggest you head over to miataforum.com, go to the 99+ section, and search on "clutch shudder". This sounds to be the same thing...
I didn't really experience it on my 02 Miata, but then again, I put a new clutch in with the turbo at 1200 miles.

I have the exact same problem with my 02 P5...... it happens when the car is cold.......thought it was related to my poor coordination.....

Yeah. at first I thought that it was something that I was doing wrong, but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. It happens more when the car is cold but it does it sometimes when it's warm too. At the beginning, it was doing it once every 2 weeks, but lately it's more like every second day. I just wish that it was something that I could reproduce at the garage. NeWayZ, I am going to give mazda canada a call early next week.

That happens to me occasionally too, but like chukonu i thought it was just my crappy driving that caused it.

If this is a problem.. I must get it fixed before it happens too often!!

yeah, this was brought up waaaay long time ago, like back in October of last year. I hadn't experienced it in a loooong ass time after I had my exhaust and intake put in, but it happened again the other day.
