cleaned my Injen intake

I took apart my Injen intake over the weekend. I cleaned the filter and checked the pipes for dirt. I had been running with it for about 10,000 miles.

The bad news: the filter was pretty filthy. The good news: none of the filth appears to have made it into the intake pipes. There was just a little dust on the inside of the pipes.

Interestingly, most of the filth seemed to be on the TOP of the filter. I think that dirt and water wash up under the hood, and then drip down into the hole where the filter goes. I am thinking of making a plastic cover of some sort to cover those holes.

Doing that would have the added benefit of blocking the airflow from the engine bay into the CAI. After all, the whole point is to breath cold air, not hot. But I'm worried that if I do that, there won't be adequate airflow down in that little box where the filter is.

What does everyone think of drilling a few holes in the splash guard, underneath the car, to let cool air in to the CAI? My concern, of course, is that it would also let dirt and water in. And if you think it's a good idea, then how many and how big should the holes be?

Thanks.

Personally I would NOT put holes in the splash guards...and for the very reason you mentioned.
