CHIP for P5
Noticed that there are some posts re:Chips for the 2.0 litre engine.
With exhange rates the way they are AUD$1 = US$0.53 it may be worthwhile looking at one of our chips here. Check out the website. http://au.powerchipgroup.com/chips/chip.asp?cid=Maz0058 :) |
that is a lot of green for 10 HP. ($515)
|
Is your chip any easier to modify than the stock one?
Might be worth it if we can modify things ourselves in it as well. Otherwise $515 will be an absolute last upgrade for most. As it's costly for so little. |
I asked about that a while back and I got some info that it would not fit. Do a search.

i got one of those powerchips.......... i'm doing just fine....... it's actually getting better with more kms.......... the pulsar sss is the fastest na 4 cylinder around my area.......... it use to beat me by 2 1/2 car lengths, as soon as the chip went in i kept up with him neck & neck all the way....... now i beat him by 1 1/2 car lengths............ please, no remarks that i'm just getting use to the car and driving it better, i aint gonna buy that and neither will anyone that knows how i drive ;) .................. so as you can see it definetly makes a difference......... i suppose the phrase "in the eyes of the beholder" comes to mind. oh and it's only at 7500kms :D

from looking at the sight I believe its not a complete swap out of the ECU but an add on module.....
this is directly off the site: In standard form, the Mazda SP20 2.0 4cyl produces 98 Kw, however the addition of a Powerchip Gold will increase the power to 108 Kw. In addition to the extra power, the torque is also increased. The SP20 2.0 4cyl produces 174 Nm standard, and this is increased to 189 Nm This means more pulling power especially up hills. Your car uses an ECU which has an embedded processor. This means that your car does not use a chip that can be modified. The Powerchip we provide for your car is an additional computer which alters the ignition timing of the vehicle for more power. Installation takes about 1 hour and can be performed by a Powerchip Authorised Fitter. |
what is kw? it said in that post that the stock 98kw will go to 108kw. is kw horses? Now if its just 10 horses that would be an ecu equal to an mp3 ecu. If anyone wanted a mp3 ecu from the states they would have to pay around a grand. so 515 isn't bad...if you were even considering the mp3 ecu.

98 kW is ROUGHLY 131 hp.
108 kW is ROUGHLY 145 hp. there is alittle difference is the conversion factor, and it all depends on what else the engine is doing. however, they are saying that if you buy thier chip you will get 15 hp. |
Kw is a unit of power just like Hp....its a METRIC unit..Kilowatts.
you will also see Nm used insted of ft-lbs...its the metric unit for torque....Newton Meters. if you will go to a search engine and do a search on Metric Conversions you can easily find the numbers for multiply or divide by to do the conversions.....I had them yesterday.....they are in the ball park of .746 Kw = 1 Hp and 1 ft-lbs = 1.3558 Nm dont' quote me on those conversion numbers, but they are damn close if not right on.........I am relying on my memory here ya know! lol:D |
Question
I heard something about a chip that instead of actually changing anything, just fooled the car into thinking the gas pedal was pushed down further than it actually was. i.e. If I press the gas down 1/4 of the way, it would tell the car that the throttle was pushed down 3/8 of the way (not exact numbers, but you get the idea).
Anyway, ... since just pushing harder on the gas does the same thing, ... what exactly does this buy? This isn't a case of the same thing now is it? |
hmmmm i wonder what sort of performance increase you would get with that chip and the Jspec cams........
