A litre of oil per 1000 miles? HA! Maybe on a YUGO! :D That story is bogus.

the only bogus part of it is the statement that its a "typical" thing for engines to burn 1L per 1000miles.

It's NOT typical or normal by any means, not unheard of either though. My buddy still owns his CRX that burns up about 2L every oil change.

Cars shouldn't burnANY oil should they? If they do, isn't it a sign of bad piston rings or something? And that blue smoke is totally a sweet addition! :D

I run premix in my gasoline (about 1oz/gal). The stock system of oil injection consists of small "dribbler nozzles" that drip oil down the rotor housings. This leads to pooling on an apex seal therefore leavign teh sides to wear much faster than the ends.

This can be proven by tearing apart any old stock rotary. you WILL notice oil lines down the side as well as uneven apex wear.

also, combusting oil leads to DRAMATICALLY mroe carbon build up internally. 2-stroke (FI certified TC-3) oil burns colorless AND leave virtually NO carbon residue behind. One of the great killers of the rotary is an apex catching on some hard carbon chunk in there... a result of babying the engine and oil dabble.

So, yes, rotaries are meant to burn oil. Abotu 1 quart/3000 miles is expected.

Shouldn't burn oil but by the time that crap starts wearing out and the vehicle does start burning oil (and pretty much every vehicle will eventually) its usually not worth the time/effort to fix. Unless you just really love that car.

BTW... Just changed the plugs in the F-150 and they are looking a little bit oily. I'm hoping its the top end but I'm betting on the bottom end because the oil was on both banks. I think the bitch is getting back at me for not driving it enough.
