CEL, O2 sensor issue with header

I bought a Forza racing header awhile back on eBay. I didn't think that eliminating the precat would cause a check engine light to go off when I bought it, but the mechanic at the shop said the light would come on. I didn't get it installed because I wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up.

The trip to the shop wasn't wasted however, I did get my exhaust hanger rewelded for free :)

Can someone help me out with the issue? Thanks!

very easy fix....install the header and buy an MIL...do a search for MIL and you'll see where to get one. Basically just wire it into the first o2 sensor and it'll trick the ecu into seeing what it's looking for. I think they are only like $40

You mean I need to buy an O2 simulator?

Roddimus Prime July-19th-2004 05:59 PM

yes

How much did you pay for that Forza header, off of E-Bay? Maybe I don't look often enough, but I rarely see stuff like that. It's usually just a bunch of seat belt pads, oil caps, etc etc etc...

you can get a MIL Eliminator for $21 from apex motorsports

or, you can put a piece of black tape over your CEL

;)

Dyne, Roddimus or any of you guys that have put on a Forza/ OBX header: did you guys replace the gaskets, or reuse the stock ones, when you bolted on your header? Any advice?
Thanks

my car only had about 10K miles on it. I re-used the stock ones. They looked brand new. Also, the header I bought didn't come with new gaskets so I just used what I had. I would've replaced it though if I had to scrape or peel it off.

But it doesn't leak, so you're good to go...
Hopefully, I'll be as lucky when it comes time to bolt a header on to my car.

if your stock gasket isn't in great shape, just go get some copper RTV, run a nice bead of it on the headers flange, tis what is sealing the headers on my PGT right now, and its only a couple bucks for a whole tube of the junk :)...

O2 Sensor positions

I think this is the right place to ask this question. I want to buy an OBX header but they claim there is only 1 02 sensor postion, as you know our cars have two positions 1 before and 1 after the first cat. Once the header is installed without the cat there is only going to be one reading to take, question is what do I do with the second 02 sensor.

Thanks

You have a second O2 bung welded in!

on the obx 4-1 made for the protege there are 2 bungs.
