CAt Back??
Looking for a little info a cat back system. I've read about the Mazdaspeed and the other. Here is my question, which one will give the best bang for the buck. Not looking for the one that makes the most noise. I have been autoxing and I hope this will give me a little more low-end pull. Yes or No? The Racing Beat is $495, but says it's for a 2.0L I have a 2000 ES 1.8L. Will it fit? Will it help or would I be pissing away $500

Get the bosal. It's cheaper, well built and "seems" to increase power. I luv mine. Just make sure you get the right tail pipe.

Mine is stainless canister muffler. It is not conspicuous unless you look directly at it or hear it.

Get the mazda sport exhaust from the dealer if you want it to look stock. I really like the look of that axle back system....

I agree that it does look more stock than the bosal.

thanks for the info! now i know mazdaspeed make the muffler/exhaust, but do they make a full cat-back (i.e. including the piping)? or would i just get that done separately then? and how much does each of these things cost?

in US dollars the mazda speed exhaust (axel back, basically)is about $200, online. You would need to get the rest of the piping made....I think from the pics and me being under my car that is basically a straight pipe with 1-3 45 degree bends, depending on how for foward you start. It will probably cost around $300-$400 US depending on the shop and the type of bending machine they use....

I just got done tearing mine all apart and putting it back together so I'm fairly familiar with it. The only thing you'd need if you put the mazdaspeed muffler on, would be the part that goes between it and the cat. All it consists of is a 2" ID pipe that bends a couple times and has a resonator in it. I can't imagine that it would cost more than $50 to have a muffler shop replace it. But, why do you need to? That's the only part of the exhaust system that's large. From the second cat back to where it connects to the muffler is the largest diameter pipe in the whole system. If you put the sport exhaust on the car, you basically have what amounts to a cat back since it will all be larger diameter pipe. The stuff FORWARD of the #2 cat is the problem.

i have the bosal and like it alot but i find it loud in side the cabin, my question is if anyone has tried the other available tips from bosal there are like 12 or so. i think a longer one may help.
as far as i know just go to your mazda dealer for the mazdaspeed muffler. |
