Can't just get ride of this "Cam" idea!!
I Don't know if this is possible, I was wondering if it was at all possible to replace the cams on my 2000 LX 1.6 with either cams from the 1.8 or maybe even the MP# or MazdaSpeed protege. I so far have been unsucessfull In finding aftermarket performance cams for this car. I'm also trying to see about getting the APC headers as well.. I have and exhaust but I am about to upgrade it to 2.25" pipe and Hopefully get my car ported. I know the changing of the cams can and will make a big difference once I am sucessfull in doing so. But I guess another question is, would I need to readjust my timing switching from 1.6 cams to mazdaspeed, do the cam gears match? Let me know what can be done if you have any ideas!!

Perhaps your best option would be to find a place to have some custom ground for your specific application.

Yeah, that probably would work, but Im sure its a bit costly. Do you know any sites that might actually have my specs in it. I don't really know what to look for specifically to improve my hp/torque curve.

For future reference, the 1.6L engine in your Protege shares *no* internal parts with the 1.8L and 2.0L engines used in the 99+ Pro and P5, so no, the cams will not work. Also, FYI the engine internals of all the U.S.-market 2.0L engines are the same, regardless of whether the engine is from a sedan, P5, MP3 or MSP. The only difference is the lack of VTCS throttle valves in the intake manifold of the MP3 and MSP.

1.6/1.8/2.0
could there be a problem with too much air getting in the cylinder considering the displacement differences. Like if I were to replace the cams from the 2.0 to a 1.6....is there a specific ammount of air that I can take in without causing problems without having a turbo or something to compress the air?
|
The cams from a 2.0l dont fit on the 1.6. Re-phrase the question.

Sorry
Im just giving an example, is there anyway to upgrade the cams on my car other than having it custom? And if I do need it custom made, what type of spec would I need to provide for them to do the work?

I have had way to much to drink tonight and am wasting time, so to simplify this. Turbo's only compress the air to allow a crazy burst of air into the engine when the valve allows it. In general I guess you don't need as much duration for the air intake valve with FI. Anyways, if are going turbo, don't worry about he cams... |
By the way
See. I pretty much forgot that I didn't post any other information about what I had planned to do with my car. In another thread I have all my mods listed including the Haltech ECU I am trying to find if they make a fuel pressure reg and rail for my car. I deffinately realize that that trio and the balence of the trio is completely important. Fuel, Air, and Spark. If you look at another of the newer forums I have another entry were I got more in detail. I got them confused and thought I had already listed my plans here. I don't want to make a grenade, but hopefully find little sucessful things to mod my car considering the small ammount of things made available for us 1.6 owners.
I should have had a V8!! Drink of course!! lol |
