Canadian P5 Clutch Chatter
 

Okie....I know this has been chewed over many times....but still....

I think I have the chatter problem with my 03P5 with 44,000km. Called the dealer - the dealer said that he knew of no TSB from Mazda Canada, and said that even though it's the same clutch as the US version ( funny that! ), the US TSB ( 3848 ) cannot be used.

Called Mazda Canada - they have NO OFFICICAL TSB on this.

Called the dealer again. The dealer told me to leave the car overnight, for them to check it in the morning. Fair enough. It's -17 Celcius here tonight ( about 0 F, I gather ). So, they'll drive it cold in the morning and see. If they see the problem, they will take it apart to see why. BUT, since there is no TSB, they "have to open it all up and look at it. If there is extra wear / tear - it's my cost. If there is a manuf. defect, they would cover it." BUT - there is no widespread manufacturing defect since there is no TSB from Mazda Canada!

So, if the dealer drops the tranny, rips the clutch apart, finds a piece of metal shaving there, even if I decide not to change the clutch, I am out of pocket $350 for disassembly-inspection-reassembly! WTF????

What strategies have people IN CANADA used to get this done for free? The dealer is nice enough, but I have no leg to stand on if there is no TSB!

I wouldn't let them do it. Thats a little of 27,000 miles and all of the mazda dealers that I talked to said that anything over 25k they would even touch. I did get mine replaced but I only had 23k when I called and 24k when I took it in.

funny thing, i used to have the clutch chatter problem, but after i changed the tranny fluid to synthetic, i'm rarely getting that clutch chatter.

REALLY? I was actually thinking or Redline MT-90. Lesse...this sorta makes sense. If the reason for the chatter is uneven heating of the clutch disk, and if it is heated by the main shaft going thru the tranny, then the whole thing is warmed up when the gear oil is - through the idle gear.... Then, if synthetic gear oil flows at lower temps, like synthetic engine oil, the whole thing heats faster....THANK YOU! I'll change the gear oil at 48K..... Even if it doesn't cure the clutch chatter in my case - can't make it worse!

OK, I've read some more posts. Some guys in Western Canada had it done. Does anyone actually have a copy, or a number of the Canadian TSB? I wonder if both the dealer and Mazda are bulls$%itting me....
