can it take the abuse?

I just got my first new car with 5speed tranny a couple of days ago, I'm still learning and my shifts aren't very smooth...sometimes they're quite bumpy :o , most of the times it happens when shifting from 1st to 2nd and viceversa.
Can my car handle this "learning process" of mine?

thanx

Well if it's bumpy meaning no grinding or anything you should be ok. The only real wear would be on your motor mounts and or cv joints, but they are made to take such stresses. It's probably better for your clutch if you're letting it out too fast instead of slipping it. We all have to learn sometime, and I can say that I belive I'm a good stick driver. Nice and smooth, that's me! :) Practice makes perfect.

yeah i did the EXACT same thing you did, this p5 was the first standard ive driven (not exacaly but the only one ive driven distance wise) it was rough at the start but you have to learn how to baby the clutch, just let it slip longer when you start out and also when going from 1-2 hold the clutch in longer because when shifting at 2.5K RPM it will drop to around 1.5K RPM where as going from 2 - 3 it will only drop to around 2.0K RPM, thats 500RPM diffrence so wait 500RPM longer before letting out the clutch
