C.A.R.B. Legal = Smog Legal?????

I have an AEM intake for my Protege, and since it is CARB legal with a CARB sticker on it, will it pass a smog test if I keep it on? I'm just wondering because I lost my factory airbox and everything. I am just wondering if CARB has any relation to SMOG...Thanks in advance!

YES.

C.A.R.B. = California Air Resources Board

Its smog not SMOG. Since California has pretty much the strictest emissions limits in the country (some other states come pretty damn close like NY) if whatever you buy is CARB exempt it is generally legal everywhere.

It is legal...

A word of advice always before giving the papers to the technician, ask him to give a quick pick to the engine to see if visually the car has anything that might not be "Visually smog legal".

I have done it giving the excuse I have cables from the stereo system or whatever excuse you can invent and "usually" they will be more than willing to see the engine bay very quickly.

This is the critical part; once he starts looking at the car, see his behavior and by then you will know if he will be lenient or a sm@@hrt azxs to give you a hard time with items like intake and other aftermarket components.

I did this with four smog technicians and the one I could perceive he was cool and I FELT comfortable about it, thats the one I would choose.

DOnt get me wrong, if it is not street legal they'll tell you, but is always good to have a smog tech you can trust and comfortable about.
