Big bore throttle body

Does anbody know which is bigger/better the Auto EXE throttle body or the Corksport power series TB for the 2.0l engine. I figure it'l help me get a little more power until i buy the WOMP.

TB's are not the limiting factor on how much air your engine can breathe....it's your MAF. A TB may give 3whp at the very top but even with FI it won't do much until you can remove or expand the MAF.

Think of it like a bottle. The bottom of the bottle may be 3" across but you're NEVER going to more water in it than you can squeeze through your smallest "neck".

Save your money.

i know ive seen bigger MAFs some where but i figured if the source of the suction was greater and the space for air to pass through was greater than it would add more than a few HP but i was also wanting to add the JDM intake manifold.

how do you get rid of the MAF? and where can i find a bigger one?

(didnt mean to jack the thread)

import_tuner19 May-14th-2005 08:58 PM

you cant get rid of the MAFand you can find the big bore throttle bodies at the corksport website, i dont mind that threadjack cause you wanted to know something relavant

...there is no point in going to a bigger TB unless you are able to address all of the constrictions between the head and the filter. This means taking a look at the plenum as well as the MAF.

Some larger TB companies claim increased HP just from changing the TB. But from what I have learned from someone that has actually run dyno numbers before and after a larger TB (and only the TB), there was no gain to be had. However, the larger throttle opening will make tip-in more abrupt, so the car will feel a little different. Probably more of a pain in the ass in stop-and-go traffic, where you are lugging along at 5mph, and a wider throttle opening would do you no favors.

But hey, a lot of people have asked about this mod, so why not be the guniea pig and try it out? If this is something you would still like to try, please share your experience on this forum.

im gonna try it once i get the money and my car back from the collision repair shop(see thread not a good day for me) and i also wanna try the JDM intake manifold apperently its a dual runner design(whatever that means). But i dont mind being a guinea pig, i just wanna know which is bigger Auto EXE($540) or corksport power series($255+$125 refundable core deposit).

bump

Roddimus Prime May-21st-2005 08:26 PM

maybe you should ask the people selling them..........

FocusMSP May-22nd-2005 01:02 PM

Corksport sells them both!

Da P-Funk! May-23rd-2005 06:46 AM

Not a good mod IMHO.

Money is better spent on UD Pulley and a header. (my $.02 worth)

I dare anyone to try! Believe it nor not, this is something that I have asked around on. In my experience, everyone claims a gain of some type. Yet, no one can substantiate it with data. Not even good ol' Corksport. But again, based on what I have learned about dyno tested engines where only the TB was different, there is little gain to be had. So, I believe firmly that other peoples' experience of no gain (yet a larger, more finicky throttle opening) is pretty much representative. Unless all of the other restrictions between the filter to the intake ports are addressed. That's why I wholeheartedly agree with Da P-Funk, until proven otherwise!

I bet there is somebody out there who wants to do this mod so badly that they will do it anyways. I just hope that he or she takes the time to collect some before and after data on a dyno or on the strip to let us know what the benefit is. Seat of the pants is not good enough for this one, since the tip-in will feel more abrupt than stock due to the wider throttle opening. This means the car likely will feel more jerky off the line, but in reality will be no more responsive.

yeah i think ill just save my money and buy the womp.
