A Better Cone Filter?

I was wondering... Right now I just use the filter that came with my Injen (looks like a K&N, no big deal.) The end is completely closed off with rubber that features the "Injen" logo. What I was thinking, was to get one of those filters with the "caved in" end to them. Would that improve flow at all, or just add more filter element to get dirty? What are some of the advantage / disadvantages of each if anyone knows?

I was also thinking that if I got an open end one, I'll cut a scoop in the splash guard and in effect build a functional ram-air intake. It could work in theory, but I'll have to wait and see. What do you guys (gals) think?

I've had good luck with the Ractive Heat Shield Filters. The opening is 3" instead of 2.5" like our intakes are but they will fit fine, just clamp em down real well.
