I had the Racing Series Magnaflow muffler and it sounded great, nice and deep. I have the Ractive muffler now, and that one sounds even better. It also might be because I put a 2.25 cat-back on with it.:p One other thing about the magnaflow, 2 of my friends had a magnaflow too, and it wasnt loud at all, you could barely hear the damn thing! Im guessing mine was deep and throaty because i had the cams:confused:

so which do u suggest i get for a deep sound and not a shitty sound but still want to be noticeable? if it isnt that huge of a difference then which is cheaper?
|
and would i be ok with the magnaflow on the street?

You will gain at most 2-3whp on your 1.6 liter from even with the best of exhaust systems..
I'd suggest starting with a rear section only exhaust (from the rear axle back) if you can have a custom setup done cheaply locally.. The 1.6 has a very low engine tone, you won't be disappointed with any exhaust you get.. I suggest axle back so that it is not overwelmingly loud from the lack of OEM resonator if you went all custom. I had a straight through "bomb" style muffler with a 4" tip, in axleback form.. and it sounded great. It was loud but I was REALLY happy with the sound.. this is essentially the "Apex N1" style exhaust. but the volume can get really really loud to be tolerable on long multihundred mile trips.. |
so im basically ok with going with the cheapest muffler thats well known? whats the most suitable inlet and outlet hole size?

grrr im so confused, i dunno which to get... the magna flow or the ractive... i heard the magna flow is really quiet and i want the sound to be noticeable but i want it to be deep, which should i go for?
also, how much SHOULD it cost for a shop to do an intake? |
your not making it any easier! lol!

cat back
if you plan on getting any power from your exhaust mod, you might as well save and get a cat-back system. all the systems available for our cars sound good. skunk 2, ractive and racing beat all make good catbacks. thats what i would suggest. a muffler is just gonna make noise, which a catback also does but it produces some power in the process.

i know, im getting custom piping done...

Magna Flow is pretty good...
I got Magna Flow and have been pretty satisfied with it. I wanted something that looked good with a nice deep tone, but not loud and annoying. Magna Flows price is good and doesn't sound like a broken loud exhaust.

Ya, a little louder, but not intolerable
The MagnaFlow tends to get a little louder, but not too loud. I guess when you are accelerating, the noise does go up a little, but it's a smooth, gradual increase (even stock exhaust gets louder, right?) It's a nice muffler if you want the looks with just a little more noise than factory, as far as highway, the noise is what I would consider "moderate" loudness compared to others. For about a little over $100 USD, it's a reliable company, pretty good looks, and "just right" deepness and loudness for me:)
