auto trans ?
 
How much power can the auto trans take and still be reliable? Im not going to go all out on the car just gona give it some more pep and i just want to know how much i can do before the trans gives out on me.

Guys regulerly run 220whp with problems around 250whp but its generally accepted that 170whp is reliable.

no no no... auto trans starts slipping at very low power numbers. the auto tranny can't hold up to much abuse at all. i'm saying 150whp MAXED reliably. anything beyond that is asking for trouble. most guys with the sportshift auto had many problems with tranny slippage after boosting at even 8psi. (80whp over stock, which is about 90whp on an auto tranny)

injen cai, wagner shorty headers, downpipe, midpipe, mabye mazdaspeed axle-back, wagner cams, send head and intake to hone for p&p. also lower car, new wheels, tires, new brakes. thats all i can think of for now. Any suggestions?

No question that the auto tranny can handle that. I would change over to some redline d4 ATf synthetic tranny fluid and maybe get a small tranny cooler. But Im running all that stuff minjus the cams and hone and my tranny is still running strong,

What are you talking about? That means that a mazda 3 (which shares the same tranny) pushes the limit stock and with minor mods completly chews up the tranny. if its slipping on cars with low power that probubl means they just abused the hell out of it, and it has insane milage.

if you were to put a tranny cooler with only thouse mods youll just be waitng longer for the tranny to heat up=less responsive in cold. Other wise a tranny cooler would be a great way to double the life of your transmision.

Instead of the wagner shorty header and midpipe and downpipe why not just go with a normal long header it would gove double the gains. And you still have another catalitic conver with which to pass emisions. And you can replace that with a high flow if you want.

Wagner boasts a 24 whp gain from his cams, i would like to see that. The mazda speed axel back doesnt really give that gains that a full exhaust would (only 3 vs. 5-6) but the much deeper exhaust note is worth it, im happy.

People have dynoed at 130 hp wth intake exhaust and headers. If wagners claims hold up you should be looking at over 150 whp im not sure how much power youd gain from the port and polish I cant remember anyone thats done it off the top of my head.

I still might go reg header but i just gota find out if they inspect under hood in IL cus if so id have to get the wagner to pass emissions. but if we dont have under hood inspections in IL, ill get the obx 4-2-1 header and probaly the wagner midpipe with mazdaspeed axleback or just get the borla or magnaflow cat-back.

No offense zero, but there's no way. I'd like to see sheets on that one.
I'm thinking 118 to 120 whp tops, maybe less. Take a look at what Karen (Phantom) is running. She got 121 on the dyno.

heh heh, talk to all the guys over on msprotege that went turbo to get 160+whp and see how many have blown their trannies, or at least have had them slip really bad. with approximately 25-30% drivetrain loss on the automatics, 160whp is about 200-210bhp. they slip after approximately 30K miles on the tranny.

besides, the determining factor is torque anyway. 160whp from a turbo usually puts down ~200 lb/ft of torque. the mazda 3 automatics dyno at about 140 lb/ft with basic bolt ons. i don't see your point.

and auxiliary tranny coolers won't affect responsiveness if you go to redline d4 atf. it's not like the stock autos don't have a tranny cooler built into the radiator or anything.
