Auto Tranny Function Inquiry

I was, "experimenting" with my Protege the other day...
As I entered a turn, I quickly yanked on the e-brake and whipped the entire car around. I'm not sure how an automatic transmission works but just in case, I floored it and kept the tires spinning while going backwards until I was certain that the car had stopped moving backwards. My question is: Would I have damaged the transmission if I had let the car continue to roll backwards while the transmission was in 'D'? I was going about 10 or so kph backwards at the time.

It's possible that some damage could have occured, but the torque converter may have taken up a lot of the slack. You have to remember tho, forward gears are designed to go one direction. Some trannies don't like to be turned the wrong way; I'm not sure about the Proteges' tranny, however.

Why were you doing this anyways?
