Auto to 5 speeds
 
Hey Guys,
Would any one here knows how much would it be to convert an auto tranny to a 5 speed on a 2000 es.?

NOTE: I'd be hard to drive stick with one arm and one leg, so be careful with that.

i had to trade in my pro '00 which was an auto for a 5speed pro5.
i though about converting the auto to manual but i found it's too technically complicated and too expensive.
so try to trade in the car or sell it

that sux. My bro converted his accord from auto to 5 speed in a weekend. I wish the Pro could be that easy

It's feasible IF you have access to cheap used parts. Doing the swap using all new parts will be too expensive due to all the parts you'll need. The main problem with the swap is finding used parts because your car is too new to be found in the yards in large numbers, and even after you find a donor car, the limited supply usually means that the prices will be higher. However, you may be able to get a better deal if you offer your good auto tranny in trade because autos are always in higher demand at the yards because they're more common and more prone to catastrophic failure if they're not properly maintained. :) Your friend probably had an easier swap because used manual trannies for older-model Accords are cheap and plentiful.

You will need the tranny, flywheel, clutch, clutch master and slave cylinders, hydraulic lines, shifter linkage, brake master cylinder fluid reservoir, center console and #1, #3 and #4 motor mounts if you use parts from a 99-00 ES. (You can use the shifter linkage, clutch hydraulics and #4 mount from a 1.6L, and also the console if you don't care that the color doesn't match, but all other parts must be from an ES.) If you want to use the stronger G-series tranny from a 01+ 2.0L, which is advisable if you plan radical power mods, you will also need new axles, and most of the other mechanical parts need to come from a 2.0L. BTW plan on using new #1 and #3 mounts and replacing your #2 mount while you're at it; they're weak, so most used mounts you'll find will probably be damaged, and if you drive hard, your #2 mount is probably already broken. :rolleyes:

Well, that depends how much work you're willing to do. :D It's not necessarily any harder than swapping to a manual tranny on most other import cars. Really, the only parts that are unusual are the motor mounts and the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir (which is necessary because the clutch hydraulics use the same reservoir as the brakes).

BTW two slight corrections to my original post...

1) The center console itself does not need to be changed, just the shifter itself.
2) You will also need the pedal assembly from a m/t car. Duh. :doh:

also not you'll have to do it yourself or pay out your ass because no mechanic will do it unless they are getting paid a fortune...its just a major pain in the ass (I had considered converting my last car from an auto to a stick but i realized it would cost me nearly 4 grand and i couldnt even get a friend of mine to help me with it...we were both mechanics and i didnt even want to tackle that one myself)...the trany and engine mounts and whatnot arent even the pain in the ass...converting the interior is what gets ugly especially your pedals, just not fun...you can probably sell your car and buy a manual that has the same milage and year and even come out with about a grand in cash (but then you have to reregister your car so more like 600-700 bucks but still)

You've got to be kidding, 4 thousand dollars....Is the tranny you're buying plated in gold??? What car do you have?? If its anything <=2001 you should be able to find used parts at a junk yard. Hell last week there was a manual protege 2.0L with everything intact at my yard. Since the yard bought the whole car for $1000 (very badly rear ended) i could prolly walk out with all the motor mounts, clutch, clutchpedal, tranny, linkages, break cylinder/reservoir for about 300-400 bux. Yes it is a real bitch to fabricate the sucker to the car but for about the cost of a catback exhaust and some elbow grease i'd practically have a new car.

it was a 1991 mercedes 300E and there are no manuals in junkyards because the american production of that car came ONLY in automatics...so basically i would have to find an imported car of the same model or import a manual tranny from europe (which if youve ever checked mercedes tranny prices goes for $3+ grand...so by the time i finished the project and did everything i estimated that it would cost around 4 grand...hence the "plated in gold tranny"...i sold that car and used it to pay for part of my MP5...i got 8000 for the merc and had 4000 i put down for a down payment and got a 0% loan from mazda credit hehe so ive got the extra 8K (or whats left of it) sitting in a bank and im using that to make my payments each month (since im a poor college student without a job for now)

yeah when i get back from NC im going to sell cars and make like 5k a month and maybe work for my cousins tow truck company marking tires at 5 bucks a car (or 17 bucks an hour)...id be making like 800 a week all under the table which is like 8 grand a month so after i save some for next year ill have like 10 grand to invest into the car this summer (if i can find that much to do to it lol...can anyone say turbo hehe).

i also thought of doing that to my car.. then i think it a hassle cause going downtown or getting stuck in traffic must be a bitch.. auto it much easier.. i could simply get a turbo or supercharger for it..
