ATF: Synthetic or not?

I am well aware of the advantages of synthetic motor oil over conventional, especially if you use extended drain intervals, which is why I use Mobil 1 in my engine. However, I'm due for my first transmission fluid change in my '00 LX, and I'm wondering if the advantages of synthetic are worth it for the transmission as well. I don't race the car or anything like that. It's mainly used for commuting to work. Anyway, I thought I'd get a poll of the people here to see what everyone's opinion of synthetic vs. conventional transmission fluid. Thanks.

Synthetic ATF should smooth out shifting and cause less wear on the moving parts, seeing as how they are lubricated better. It made a noticable difference in my 5-speed when I changed to Redline's MT-90. I don't know though if you can go from conventional to synthetic ATF, I know you can't for engine oils.

The main problem here is drainging all the regular ATF out. I have heard about drilling a hole but using the drain plug and a draining tool still left a lot of fluid which I din't fell comfortable mixing the two.

You live in texas, so forget that...

When you live in cold place, on some car its verry defficult to shift for a moment. If you dont have problem to shift and if you can ride your stick as you can ride a woman you dont need synthec oil. On older car when bearing gets older and that shifting in some gear(mostly second gear) is difficult syntec oil can help.
On some car switching from normal to syntec oil can cause problem with the seal(not only for the tranny but the engine too).
