Anyone else get this?

While im driving and the RPMs rise to 2k i will hear a awkard buzz type sound for a second or less.

I have no freakin idea what it could be but im going to my Mazda Dealer tomorrow and since i have a warrenty im going to get them to look at it.

I dont really know that much about cars but i do know enough to know that the engine/tranny/whatever shouldnt be making the noise its making when it hits 2k RPM.

Peace

Where is the sound coming from? Is it only around 2k rpm's? Does it happen in reverse? What does the buzz sound like; washing machine buzzer? Need more info.

It only makes the sound at 2k, it sounds more like a grinding sound than a buzz, it definitly sounds like its coming from the engine area.

Maybe its the tranny?

it's hard to say unless i am there... i had something similar before. but that's after a rally. I bottomed out a few times so the heat shield on the cat and the end of y-pipe got smashed a little. So the vibration at specific range of rpm would give that 'buzz' sound.... since you are taking it to the dealership, let them find out. :) good luck!

do you have an intake? b/c sometimes if you have aftermarket part it may just be loose and vibrating up against the wall..

also do you feel it? like do you feel it in your shift knob? if you do then it might be your tranny ... like your sychros.. or worst case scenario you might have a loose pin

i had a really, really bad grinding sound on mine so I jacked up the car and it turned out to be a little pebble was wedged right between the bellhousing and the right axel and was grinding at the axle. At high speeds there was no grinding. I just took a screwdriver to the sucker and the sound is gone.

2003, Have you visited the dealer yet? What you describe may possibly be the infamous 'cold start rattle' that many of us experience. Here are a couple links to the FAQ and other threads that talk about it. If this is what you are experiencing, it is annoying, but is definitely not a reliability issue.

Cold Rattle TSB

VTCS exposed....

There is lots of discussion and arguing over the issue I speak of (search on cold enginer rattle). If the rattle is the VTCS, it is NOT a reliability issue.

I hope this helps :)
