Air intake

I have a Mazdaspeed Protege and I was talking to the mechanic that is certified for Mazdaspeed and was asking him about an intake for my car, He seemed to think that that was a bad idea, he should me this box in nthe intake that said it was part of the computer and measured the air flow so he said he would not do it . Any Ideas?

If the aftermarket intake is designed for your car, it should have places for the MAF and IAT.

That box (MAF sensor) can & should be incorporated into the intake system.
Look at the Injen site. There's a nice picture, you can see the MAF 1/2 way through their cold air intake.
or
Go to the K&N site and you can download their .pdf file with instructions for the Protege cold air intake sys. This will show it in a bit more detail.

Of course your car won't look the same, and I'm not sure if there's a kit available, but at least it gives you some information, should you want to do up a custom intake that's prettier than the MSProtege.

if thats the msp with forced induction, i would be very skeptical to use an aftermarket intake. i would recommend just a drop in filter. u dont want to alter the a/f ratio unless you have an aftermarket programmable computer or piggy pack and know exactly what the heck you're doing.

yeah just pick up one of those huge bowl shaped filters to let more air in....and get a free flowing turbo back exhaust too.
