air-fuel-exhaust, systems P5
 

so i've got a great cold air intake for my p5, and i plan very soon on getting the header-back exhaust system from ractive. i'd like to upgrade my fuel system, any suggestions i'm thinking throttle body, intake manifold, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump/filter, anyone know good sources for these items?

Forget all that crap and buy a J-spec intake cam. It's like $200 dollars and gives 12 real hp.

justin, there is no need to touch your fuel system until you decide to add boost. You should do a search for best first mods. It has full lists of who/what/when/where/how.

p.s. I bought both j-spec cams and dyno'd 18whp and 15lb-ft over my last NA dyno. With the supercharger I'm sure it'll be more due to the higher lift and longer duration.

where's the best place to pick up this j-spec cam, and how long do you think the install would be, i'm pretty mechanically confident, just never pulled one of these p5 babies apart...

oh, and with this cam, i can still strap on this super charger right? might even compliment?, just have to work on convincing the wifey that the ac stopped working all by itself, and the dealership cant do anything about it... lol

to answer your questions:

1. I bought both of my cams (intake and exhaust) from www.srmotorsports.com I paid $449shipped. I got 18whp and 15tq from this mod alone. If you've never replaced a timing belt before on your own I'd have a professional do it. I've done them a lot but I didn't do my own. I don't have a lift anymore.

2. They'll work EXTREMELY well with the supercharger. Unlike a turbocharger these NA cams only enhance how much air the motor can take in. The SC provides the air and the cams provide the ability for the engine to accept it.

3. My Ac started going south in my p5 after about the third tank of gas...it wouldn't blow cold, it caused a TON of drag on the engine. I pulled mine out and learned how to drive with my arm out the window...haven't looked back since.

"not smog legal" will i pass emmissions testing?

I'm just talking out my ass here, but I suspect anything that gives a TRULY measurable performance gain is either going to fail emissions or negatively impact fuel consumption. The factory optimizes tuning for max power within the parameters of emissions and reasonable fuel consumption and cost. They could free up lots more horsepower with the factory setup (more aggressive cams, ecu programming) if they wanted to, but they might get 20 mpg and lose the ULEV rating. They could stick a tube header on it, still be compliant, but a heavy cast iron manifold is apparently cheaper.

Exactly. I guess I should have factored reliability in there, too. It seems a given with the asian makes, it's less a big deal for some OEMs than others.
