Afraid of hydrolocking your engine?
Don't know if anyone has heard of this, but I found this interesting solution to hydrolocking.
It sounds promising in theory. I wonder if and when it will make it to market. http://www.prepsparkplugs.com/hydrofix.htm |
definitly a neat idea, but i would not want to be the test dummy for those.
|
You really think in a hydrolock situation that the little vents created in the sparkplug are going to be able to pass all that water fast enough not to damage the piston or rod? Neat idea but it isn't going to work.
|
Has anyone read the forced induction/high compression section on that site? Something like "continually vents to prevent detonation". WTF. . . if I wanted less cylinder pressure, I'd use lower compression or less boost.
|
interesting theroy......however.....I have a much better solution to preventing hydrolock....
KEEP YOUR PRO OUT OF THE FRICKIN WATER!!! Its NOT a boat.... |
or a submarine, unless yours is yellow :P

FYI: A letter from their president
Thank you for your interest in PREP Spark Plugs. We are an American small
business working to bring spark plug pressure relief technology from development into production. We have recently taken delivery of five lots of pre-production spark plugs. Our product development cycle is an exhaustive one: engineering analysis including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), manufacturing process development with embedded quality systems in place, testing "on the bench," in an engine on a dyno test stand and operational in vehicles. Our business plan includes product launch of four spark plugs in calendar year 2003 followed by an additional twelve versions in 2004. The applications first served will be correct for most popular high performance and passenger vehicles, light trucks and watercraft. The PREP Spark Plugs website is one method we are using to perform market research. We are only listed on a few free search engines and have never paid one penny in advertising. We get about 50,000 hits a month from 2,500 visitors. Thank you for finding the website and inquiring about PREP Spark Plugs. Your email information has been entered into our database and we will notify you when PREP Spark Plugs are available. We will also be updating the website with product development information and test results. PREP Spark Plugs will retail for under $5.00 and will be available initially by mail order through ThermoFluid Innovations. Of course we expect to earn shelf space at auto parts stores and be available through distributors of high performance engine accessories. We have been distributing pre-production spark plugs for unsupervised field trials free of charge. In return, we ask that a data sheet be filled out and returned to us. We employ consumer feedback and lean manufacturing to adaptively develop pressure relieving spark plugs with wide applicability and dependable performance. If you would like to receive free PREP Spark Plugs to try in your vehicle and take some data for us, please reply with the following: Engine year make and model Your preferred spark plug (e.g., NGK B8ES, AC R44T) Any alterations to compression ratio or ignition timing Maximum boost pressure (if applicable) Nitrous oxide injection (if applicable) Fuel type and delivery upgrades (carburetor or injector upgrades, throttle body modifications.) When we have a pre-production lot of PREP Spark Plugs that we think will meet your needs, we will contact you. Thanks again for your interest. Sincerely, Mike Shifflette President ThermoFluid Innovations |
