AEM Short RAM Intake Question ?
 

I had Injen CAI before
But too much raining , scare the water puddles
so i sold my injen and got the AEM

Few questions wanna ask

Just installed the AEM
I notice that the fitment wasnt that perfert
I remember someone told me that it fits the manual only but not the Auto ?

I found out that the filter cant go DOWN
becoz few rubber hose to blocking

and after 15 mins drive
the filter area is very HOT
I wonder if it is GOOD or Not

also
when i dirve
i hear some weird noise
i wonder what kind of sound is that

I really need help
i wonder if it really fit the auto P5

hmm,
1.) got hot? ill check mine after i drive it around tommorrow.
2.) Noise?? what kinda noise? Mine squeeks cause my filter is aluminum...and rubs agains a piece of metal
3.) how can water effect the CAI?? i wash my engine all the time wiht my filter...No problems yet and thats sprayin water DIRECTLY over the intake....

i dunno dood, sounds like u either got the wrong intake...or something got messed when u orderd it.

why were u switchin intakes anyways???:(

I dont mean to flame but it was painful to read this post, im assuming english is not your first language.:wtf: BTW if you have an auto tranny you need the 1.8l version intake.

The penalty for getting too much water in the intake is severe engine damage! The best way to wash an engine with an exposed filter is to wrap the filter in a plastic bag and secure it at the base of the filter with a rubber band or something like it. If you just get the filter wet, it will dry itself out when you drive although it may perform badly for several minutes. If you actually pressure wash it (the filter) you will force water into the intake. Since water will not compress it's a good way to bend a rod. It's called hydrolocking. Some of the cold air intakes pick up air fairly close to the road. Any deep puddles potentially pose a threat if you go through them and kick water into the filter. That's one of the reasons that people use shorty intakes. Less cold air, but less likely to suck water.

i have the AEM intake installed on my P5 and i've had no problems going through car washes, rain storms, snow storms, masive pot holes/ mud holes


i just got back from Mt tremblent ski resort and they have some of the worst road conditions i have ever seen, i almost had a head on colision with a jetta (thank god for the P5's awsome handeling!), and my intake is still in one peace and working fine!
