AEM short ram for $110 USD ???

Hey guys... i was searching Adventon.com and they have AEM short rams for only $110. Im wondering if this is a typo because its only the silver one that is $110... the blue and red ones are $160 and i cant imagine that the price would have that much of a difference just because they were different colors.

red gives you extra HP remember? its a performance color, silver is just a generic color :)

heheheh yea, just get the plain silver color for $110. I prefer Short rams over Cold Air's, they sound better IMO. Performance difference is so minor it doesn't even matter, choose what you like.

I need to hear what a short ram sounds like, because I love the sound of my CAI! I can't imagine they sound much different... what's the difference? The length?

Yup they are a lot louder throughout the powerband, and IMO are louder over all. They are shorter, and since the sound comes from the Filter sucking the air in, its going to be louder. In honda's the CAI puts the Filter in the bumper (not sure how it is on protege's) so when you have a Filter up in the engine bay vrs filter in bumper, what do you think is louder? The performance different has proven to be so minor that it all comes down to preference. I would rather not have my filter sitting in my bumper, I have seen too many fall off into the bumper and guess what? Filter is right next to the ground where your throwing dust and stuff around. Like I said its all preference, I prefer the Short ram over the CAI anyday, down here in Texas it doesn't make a difference what you get.

Louder! Eeeek! My friend can hear my car a 1/4 mile away from his house and I'm not even really pushing it! And a short ram is louder?! I was kind of wishing my CAI was just a tad bit quieter. Even light, top-gear acceleration on the freeway makes everyone think you've downshifted twice and are flooring it! And when I am pushing it, I can drown out most of those cheap "angry bee" exhaust these guys run on their Civics!

Ever hear a Short ram on a 2.2L DOHC Vtec motor? That alone drains out most other cars with intake/headers/exhaust. I know, I ran the H22a in my accord for a while, and now I have a SOHC 2.2L and its just as loud :D The sound comes from the filter sucking the air in, you can get different filters which produce different sounds, but, ofcourse the Short ram is gonna be loud because its sitting right there up top rather than being muffled down in the bumper..

actually, the sound comes from the exhaust reverberating back through the engine and out the intake. that is the reason the car manufacturers put all that plastic tubing on your intake, to muffle the sounds that some through. that is also the reason why honda engines make more noise on the vtec cam than on the low cam. the high cam has more overlap for better high end power, and this overlap lets more sounds come back through the engine.

The guys at RSXworld.com are talking about the AEM Short Ram prices to. It seems that AEM is selling the silver or clear Short Rams at a discounted price for a few cars untill the end of July. Take a look at the RSX Short Ram in silver on the Adventon web-site. It is also cheaper then the colored versions. It also seems that dealers are trying to pocket some extra cash by selling the silvers at the same price as the colored. Ask your local dealers for this discount.

I bought a silver one from them for $110. It was the last one! It shipped out the very same day and they e-mail me a receipt with the tracking number. Very smooth transaction!

After looking at mp5's car... I can't see how the performance difference is so minor. I've seen a dyno for the Injen CAI, but not for the AEM. This picture doesn't show it very well, but Marc was complaining that the intake filter is only a couple of inches from the fan behind the radiator. When the engine gets hot, that fan kicks on, and it blows hot air straight into your intake. That could be a difference of 75 degrees going into your engine, which would definitely make a performance difference.

Have a lil trust on AEM. I have called them several times about different things and my brother has also for parts for his Acura. AEM has been around longer than any other company like Injen and AEM has far more money for R&D than Injen. AEM researched and made the best intake possible for our Proteges! AEM tunes the length and diameter of the intake tube first, then they try to locate the filter in the best location possible with the given length of intake pipe.
My brother has a 00 Integra GSR making 179 whp with just i/h/e/cat/OEM Type R cams/cam gears/VAFC?dyno tuning. he switched from an AEM CAI to an AEM short ram and picked up HP!!
Longer intake pipes sucking cool air are NOT always better!! Think, people, think!
I doubt Injen even bother to test a short ram intake!
