About tires

Hello, i have a mazda protege dx 2002 with alloy wheel.

i have to buy new tires for my car and i want to know if i can buy 205-55-15 Dunlop SP Sport FM901? is it too width ? do they look nice on this car?

my car has Bridgestone Potenza RE92 195-55-15, the tires that came when i bought my car from the dealer.

Thank you

If you change the width, you have to change the height to keep the speedo accurate.

Go to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html. It will calculate for you what sizes you can swap.

Why would you want to switch to a 55 aspect ratio tire? This will adversely affect handling because of the higher profile tire (more sidewall squirm).

The best upgrade, since you have the 6" wide OEM wheel, is to switch to a 205/50-15 tire. This will improve handling since you will have a wider tread and a lower profile than stock. Also, according to the Tire Calc, your speedo error will only be 1.6% too fast, which is negligible. This is a common and established tire upgrade used by a number of Forum members when retaining the OEM wheels.

Incidently, you posted in the wrong section!
