4 wheel drive???

is it possible to take the familia 4 wheel drive tranny and other linkage and turn a p5 into 4wd???? is this too costly to try to attempt? also my p5 is in the shop getting wisco pistons, pauter rods, titanium valves, retainers and springs, stage 3 clutch and a new t3/t4 hybrid turbo..... what kind of power should i be looking forward to????

Welcome to the forum--the search button can be your best friend.
Here's one to start with regarding your question--and it's AWD, not four-wheel drive:

One other thing, and don't take this personally, but considering the amount of work you are having done and how much it's costing you, it kind of scares me that you don't already know the answer to your second question!

AGREED, thats a HUGE blind leap..especially with that spec. turbo....please tell me you're running standalone engine management

agreed. sounds like somebody needs to do a little research

re

i have done some research, but most is based on a very repitable company, Autosolutions, here in va beach. yes it will be recieving the greddy E-manage stand alone. as to the blind step theory.... i have talked to people with turbos on non turbo cars, researched the companies i plan to use, had the shop contact turbonetics to get optimum trim and wheel size. i have not ,however, spoke with anyone who actually has turbo-ed a protege 5. i have been quoted around 300 whp at 18 psi, but wanted to know if someone who actually has the work done can agree.

lol i replied in that thread over a year and a half ago....damn... LOL
and all i was doing was talking about RX-7s LOL

anyway, if you read the thread, u know what ima say

cost alot for just the parts, no tunnel there, and also the awd tranny aint that strong, so if your thinking of huge power (which you seem to be doing, especially with the turbo setup you got now) the tranny wont hold the power, and you'll be breaking parts everywhere in that tranny

i wonder how your stock tranny will hold the power????

blaznblair September-29th-2004 12:33 PM

re

that is a good question.... hope it doesnt have too many problems, don't have any money left for a tranny.... any input on that guys????

kbow September-29th-2004 12:36 PM

buy a mustang...lol

blaznblair September-29th-2004 12:40 PM

mustangs suck, with the essential speed setup i have now, it will spank mustangs. plus the look when they get beat by a wagon compares to nothing else in this world.

Racing Beat September-29th-2004 12:47 PM

what are you doing with your NA goodies?

Matty Mooling September-29th-2004 12:49 PM

someone correct me if i'm wrong but from what i've read the stock tranny should be alright to about 300 whp. but i don't think i'd want to run that way for too long. with 300whp something will probably go eventually especially if you drive it real hard. i'd strongly recommend upgrading your tranny

blaznblair September-29th-2004 12:55 PM

na goodies

dont have any NA goodies, already turboed when i bought it. sorry bout that, so how would i go about reinforcing the tranny???

VagaBond-X September-29th-2004 11:56 PM

well its not really horsepower that kills the trannies

its the torque...

and i heard somewhere around 220 - 250 ft/lbs of torque will break the tranny

and i'm geussing u will be over that mark with the 300whp....so i suggest granny shifting for a while, and not bringing your car into the powerband much
