1994 Protege Cv Shaft

1994 Protege manual tranny. OEM CV shafts removed normally, replaced w/NAPA reman shafts. NAPA reman shafts become stuck in tranny. Internal tranny damage resulting from NAPA CV shaft removal.

Anyone have same or similar problem?

hmm....what kind of internal tranny damage are we talking about??

macdaddyslomo April-29th-2004 04:40 PM

hmmmm...possible mechanic error on the install??? or installed wrong part. usually a CV shaft should slide right in with a little click once it hits the circlip that locks it in place. I bet it was the wrong part, didnt quite fit right and SOMEONE forced the part in anyway. I've done plenty of CV's before and the only issue i ever had was on the seals

Bet the clip is wedged in the splines. For the automatic or DX proteges, ALWAYS USE OEM AXLES... the after market ones do that a lot..... pieces of crap.

edit: And for the DOHC models (LX in the U.S., GT in Canada), Autozone axles seem to work fine.

CV SHAFT STUCK

Won't know extent of tranny damage until teardown at tranny shop next week.

Mechanic did installation of NAPA remans in front of me. OEM's came out easily and NAPA remans went in easily. Would not come out after 4 months without tranny damaging force.

NAPA contends design flaw in tranny female spline.

Thanks for replies.

I know this is a little off topic, but could somebody explain how the half-shafts/axles are put installed or removed? I'm talking the basics, like how they fit properly into the hubs and transmission. I removed axles from a Camry and it was a bitch! The manual said "just slide them out" and wow, definitely took way more effort and prying and pulling than that!
