1.6l Pro Air Intake HELP

I just received a ractive intake model sf1011. My question is if it's compatible for my car: 1.6l pro dx!?!?!?!?!?

kargoboy February-13th-2005 10:20 AM

Uhhh, unless there's a ractive expert somewhere, that's not gonna help.
Where'd you get it?
If you bought it somewhere, why did you buy it without knowing it'd fit?
I'm not real knowledgable on the 1.6l but I do know that finding applications specific to this engine is difficult.

mazdabel March-5th-2005 12:19 PM

Sorry for the long delay but I did research the intake (purchased from cardomain.com) and it said "all models" but it clearly is not. I installed it anyway but I had to modify the AFS to fit and I've had no problems, no check engine light, no stalling, etc. The 1.6l is VERY limited in terms of upgrades but half the challenge and fun is finding what does work and using it. Besides, in Seguin, I have a one-of-a-kind protege.

zerocover March-5th-2005 12:54 PM

Hold up you were able to fit a 2.0 sri on to a 1.6l pro?
How! The 2.0 stuff is cheaper and more readily avaible.

What did you have to modify pics? I was sure the 2.0 and 1.6 had diffrent mafs, keep an eye on that because the 1.6l mafs are notorius for not sitting properly so they throw cels with even 1.6l specific intakes.

mazdabel March-12th-2005 12:21 AM

Yo what I did was modified the mafs (like cut it around so it'd fit snugly with the rubber attachment) which worked fine...I did have to find a plug for a hole located in the tubing near the filter element. I just bought a camara so ill take some pics so you can see for yourself how i did it. no problems with my car overall so far!

mazdabel March-29th-2005 11:07 PM

let me tell you something. quick update. My intake is mine. It is fine and dandy. I just love the sound around 3500 - 4000 rpms and especially when I punch the gas. No bogging. No rough idling. Nothing except a damn CEL which cam on ohhh a week after i think. Probly a sensor which i'll look into when ehh properly motivated. Next : bosal cat-back w/interchangeable tips. BOOM! Oh yeah. One other thing. I ordered the intake from cardomain but they sent me another one!!!! Should i tell them or sell it on ebay? Whacha think?? maybe a new thread advertising it??? C'mon tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What should i do?

I did this a long time ago Zero...you cut the MAF out of the intake box and plug the IAT hole in the 2.0L SRI with a vacuum plug....that's it

zerocover March-30th-2005 05:14 PM

Like I said you threw a cell. With the cel on you loose insane power and milage goes to shit. Dont get me wrong I drove around with one for 6 months but its not a good thing.

Well mac I would rather not mess with my maf for the time being. This being my second one. I do however have an idea for a custom intake.

Do our cars suffer the same problem using cai's as the 2.0's ( loss of lowend power)? I just couldn't handel that.

macdaddyslomo March-30th-2005 05:25 PM

I NEVER threw a CEL ! My setup has been on the car for about 3 years and has run flawlessly. I lost a slight bit of low end torque, but when revving high it is much better. Definitely worth it . However If i were you I'd simply look on ebay...they sell CAI's that are made for the 1.6L for like $49 When I bought my intake there was only the Injen one for $249... I spent like $35 for a 2.0L intake and it works great

zerocover March-30th-2005 06:34 PM

There never seems to be an intake for the 1.6's online exept the expensive ones.

The loss in lowend is probubly due to the lack of resonator.
Im gonna try to put one together out of pvc w/ resonator possibly also out of pvc. I just need someway of measuing gains, im consitering a gtech like device. If there good Ill have one bent up at an exhaust shop. I also have another trick up my sleve which should be pretty slick.

macdaddyslomo March-30th-2005 07:57 PM

this is too expensive ???

mthegodfather March-30th-2005 09:03 PM

That is a really good price.

zerocover March-30th-2005 09:22 PM

Alright you got lucky ;)
I was refering to the injens that I seem to see all over the place.

mthegodfather March-30th-2005 09:23 PM

For that price I might have to order it.

mazdabel March-30th-2005 09:32 PM

As far as cel's, do you, zero, think it'll be better alternative?

zerocover March-30th-2005 09:41 PM

If you already cut your maf theres no going back. And the liveonspeed intakes are notorious for throwing cels. However the intertube trick seems to make it work fine. cut an inter tube up and use it as a seal between the maf and intake.

The only reason to justify buying an injen intake is that its the only one to not throw a cel, and seems to not have any of the other side effects. I think that just because the intake is a cai it would get better low end then an sri.

mazdabel March-30th-2005 09:49 PM

In the meantime though, ill try that trick. I am seriously considering juan's hiboost kit. i dont have that much money off-hand but i know that'll elim the cel prob, no? in the meantime i may just browse for that injen intake. that was the first one i found a couple years ago but because of the locale, water intake problem came up.

I guess i could just drive carefully...

zerocover March-30th-2005 10:05 PM

No little puddle will mess you up.
You need to go swimming basicly to see a problem.

Where I live I do get alot of flooding and can only imagine how many times the snorkel has saved me.

mazdabel March-30th-2005 10:11 PM

snorkel, c'mon! how bout that spongy thing that claims it will not allow water to penetrate? I forgot who makes it but it looks like a black sponge.

I avoid potholes and puddles anyway to prevent damage to rims ;)

macdaddyslomo March-31st-2005 08:12 AM

the AEM bypass valve is what you are referring to, and it will negate any gains you see from the CAI

mazpro2 April-11th-2005 09:41 PM

hey macdaddyslomo, do you happen to have a pic of your set up? I bought one of those ebay intake and it makes the car run like shit, hessitates and the milage went to hell. I tried making it a short ram, it helps on the hessitation a little, but it's still the same.

at this point I am up for trying anything exept the injen, too much money. so you said that the 2.0 intake will fit if I cut out the maf from the filter box?

please let me know. thanks,

Jose

macdaddyslomo April-11th-2005 09:43 PM

make a gasket out of a bicycle innertube ....those ebays intakes dont seal very well at the MAF

mazpro2 April-11th-2005 09:54 PM

you think that might help?

macdaddyslomo April-12th-2005 07:40 AM

yes.

mazpro2 April-12th-2005 10:18 AM

Bump for a picture

macdaddyslomo April-12th-2005 10:38 AM

I don't have that setup...and I don't have any pics of my current one either

zerocover April-12th-2005 02:13 PM

You did the ghetto cutting of the plastic below the snorkel in an effort to get cold air and a possible ram effect right?
Hows that working out for you.

macdaddyslomo April-12th-2005 02:44 PM

First of all ZERO there is no need to bash my setup. From what I have read I am one of the few 1.6L guys with ZERO problems with my CAI...Yes I cut the MAF out of the airbox, but NO it is not ghetto. It looks just the same as the 2.0L MAf tube , As I cut it out carefully, and it works great. You always look for a reason to start with me, and constantly argue with me. Is there a problem here ?? Mod envy ?

mazpro2 April-12th-2005 03:33 PM

hahaha, Lol. another quick question, you bought the 2.0 Cold Air intake, right? and it's the same size as the 2.0 Maf? I am thinking about just getting the ebay 2.0 CAI and give it a try. sorry for all the questions, I just want to get it straight before I cut my sensor and mess it up.

Jose

zerocover April-12th-2005 04:52 PM

Not bashing your set up at all. I thought you did this
http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/sho...ght=intake+mod
Last time I checked out your profile im sure it said modified intake. I thought you just modified the stock one.

definetly mod envy ;) It's hard to distinguish between sarcasam and normal conversation on forums isnt it? PS I wasent being sarcastic.

In other news. This guy did some pretty cool intake stuff. A good read if you ask me.
http://planetsoarer.com/Ramair/ram_air.htm
Theres a whole series of them where the ultamate intake is the one with the intake grabbing air from the fod light hole. The only problem is that it seems to suck up alot of bugs and stuff. A couple of our forum members have done similar things.

Yes I did...The silicone adapters that come with the intake will fit the cut-out MAF tube..you will have to plug the IAT hole though

zoom_l8r April-24th-2005 03:07 PM

when you through a cel. How do you fix it

mazpro2 April-28th-2005 11:02 PM

you should get it checked and erased ot you can reset the ECU by disconecting the battery's ground and pumping the break at lest ten times. if you do that, the car will have to learn how to idle again.
