Wheel spacers

What are the drawbacks to running wheel spacers? I'd like to widen the track a bit and fill the wheel well a little better(14" miata rims). And I don't really want to lower the car, either.

I've heard it can cause premature wear on the wheel bearing. How much space is too much before it starts causing problems on a strictly street driven daily driver.

I've been eyeing the H&R spacers. I can increase the track width anywhere from .5" to 2".

Any opinions?

I wouldn't go for more than an inch myself. In some jurisdictions it is illegal to have tires that stick out past the fenders so you may want to take that in consideration. I think 2" would be too much.

Well, the largest the H&R spacers go is 25mm(nearly an inch). So it would increase the track width almost 2 inches. Coming out an inch on each side seems a little extreme. I picked up a set of 1/4" spacers for cheap last night, I'll see if it makes any difference.

Corksport has a set, 30mm that don't make it too wide but they're like 215$
