need sumthin affordable

Hey, what is the best value for suspension for a 1.5" drop and not too pricy. I don't have the cash to dish out, but i know i will have to use my credit cards for this one, i don't race but want my car to ride a bit better and less off the ground. I have read about H & R's and Intraxes. But i have no idea what i should be looking to spend. But i need something now before fall.. so i can enjoy the rest of the summer. Please help.. also if u guys know of a good place in montreal to get them.. i know i am askin alot now. Please help..

Intrax are good ... I had them and liked them . they can be had for about 180US. maybe cheaper..

H&R won't give you any noticeable drop . but you can get a little better handleing.. I wouldn't get them though .. They don't drop enough for me .

Eibachs are nice also , but to pricey for my taste.

Thanx Bruce, as for those intrax. the drop is 1.8 & 1.7 if i am not mistaken.

Just checked thier website. Are u suggesting the Coilovers or just the springs. ??

And if it sounds like i don't know what i am talking about, you are right. Still new to this stuff. Not too sure the difference when it comes to suspension stuff. But i will look into that company.

What do you think about adjustables?? is that a mistake, it sounds brilliant though, also being from canada, we get some pretty crappy snow storms..

Call Tire Trends from Vancouver. www.tiretrends.com Thats where I got my H&R's for $325CAN and Eibach's where $20 more. Shipping is like $15 and I live in Atlantic Canada. I also got the KYB GR-2's from Canadian tire for $450CAN (all 4) with tax.
H&R's will give you noticable drop and very good handling, Eibach's are just a little softer, but will give you a better drop.
I actully considered selling mine, because I wanna buy a car just for AutoX and leave my Protege stock. Maybe we can work something out if you're interested...

lemme know

Well, if u are thinking of gettin rid of them let me know.
how much u want for them? And i will evaluate it.
Also, how long have u had them on for.

Do u have a pict of your car with them on??? if so please send it to me or post it..

I had them on for 6 weeks, and I can send you a bunch of pics in 3 to 4 hours ( at work right know).
Also, I don't know if all 2nd gen. protege suspention is the same, I got '98 SE 1.5l.
I would probably want like $650, and that's not shipped ofcourse.

For the price he is offering. It would probably equate to the same if you bought the stuff yourself.

1)Yes the drop on the intrax is 1.8 all around.

2)Intrax only offers Springs for our model car , as far as I know. I was pretty pleased with my Intrax springs. Only reason I took them of was because I went to Coilovers , but otherwise they were great.

3) The H&R and the Eibach are nice if you don't want much of a drop but improved handleing. If you get H&R or Eibach I don't think you would really even notice a big drop difference.

4) If you go adjustable on the Protege, I wouldn't get anything short of the Ground Controls .. My only reason for fealing this way is because of my expensive shocks. But otherwise I won't touch coilovers again .. unless on my 323.
Some people have Dropzone and Arospeed and they are happy with them ..
Also if you live in an area with ruff roads or a lot of snow(like Canada) a coilover drop may not be for you. I would just stick with either the BG , Apex(although I don't know much bout them) or Intrax. with the 1st and last being my best choices.

i will keep checkin

thnx Bruce for lookin out for me! it's greatly appreciated. I will take a look around here if i can find something.

Do the intrax give u a rough ride? Or are they kinda smooth, i want springs for aesthetic reasons only. Not gonna race or anything like that. Also, with your intrax what kind of shocks do you have??
don't the springs and shocks have to go hand in hand, by that i mean they have to be compatible with eachother.

Bruce95fmla August-8th-2003 03:27 PM

Well I would say , if you could get his GR-2's without the H&R's for a decent price, I would say take em , but it depends you know. between my site www.protosportracing.com and Hunters site www.protegetech.com you can see practically all the second gens around. Also you can see different springs on different people's cars and so forth. My site is being renovated on my laptop so so parts of it are down and some links don't work yet.

check out this post. we are discussing drops in there also
The Intrax rode excellent ... never had a problem , and when they settled it felt just the same. The BG's are nice to although I get the fealing they are a bit softer, but I am not sure.

When I had my Intrax I had the kyb GR-2's ..

springs shocks hand in hand. well it depends on what you are doing. every day driving or serious racing.

because of where I live, I can't really run stiff springs like the weapon R coils or the Matrix coils(universal coil overs) . The raods here are to ruff so springs like BG and Intrax suite me just fine.

I don't know if spring - shock mating is all that important for a daily driver /casual car .. you would be better to ask psuedorealityx as he autocrosses and loves plotting those things in his brain...

protegetech.com doesn't work

allright, thnx for the links. I will keep checkin' i wouldn't mind second hand stuff, preferrebly within canada to avoid the customs charges.

But i want a noticible difference, i have my 16's on and it looks like i could safely drop 2 inches.. Your car looks sweet, so i wouldn't mind lowering it like yours. And i need something soft, if you say your roads are bad, i am sure they are nothin compared to the roads over here in Montreal, i don't know where our tax money goes, but it's definetely not there.

From what i read the bg's don't lower the car as much as the Intrax (bg = 1.5 frnt & back & intrax 1.8 frt & bck ). I will keep hunting. i was gonna check protegetech today but it's not running!! Site must be down.

and this is gonna be an everyday driving car that will go through winter also.. all this input rules I am learing so much from this.

I drove my Apex in MTL earlier this year with the KYB and it rode really nice!
