Excessive steering wheel shaking

Hi. I have been experiencing this problem recently. I am driving a thousand miles a month on my 97 DX, and it seem as though as everytime I begin to approach 80 mph, the steering wheel begins to rattle, along with the car. I have notice the problem go away when I put higher octane gas (93), though the car still rattles, only at a higher speed (90 mph). Is it my tires, or the alignment. When I had got the car used, I pushed 95 mph no probem. Then at about 10K, I had to do an alignment because the corner of the stock tires (Yokohama's) kept on rubbing off to the point I would not pass the Inspection. Since I have put on Uniroyal's Tiger Paws, I have had no problem. I am still rotating them every 10K, though the rattle is still there.

Also. I have an automatic, which all of the sudden can be shifted from park with out pressing on the brake pedal. Should I see the dealer right of the way?

Thanks!

I think I have figured out why my wheel shakes so much at high speeds. I have recently found out, that a have dented my stock wheel on my DX. All thanks are going to the Boston Department of Public Works, for leaving all the pretty pot-holes out there for us. I have tried hammering it out, but I only did so much. Any one knows for a quick dent fix on the rim? Thanks.

also bad strut mounts will cause excessive vibration and therefore , driving you crazy , you will feal it more when you carry people

Well, now that I think of it, I think my whole front right wheel is messed up. After I hit the pot hole, I hit so hard I have lost a hub cap, dented the wheel, and now that I drive 120 miles everyday, I notice car is driving slightly to the right. So I think my alignment is messed up too.

Yes your toe will go out of wack if you hit a bump hard enough .. so that is why you have to kinda take your time when you are driving

Well, I did my alignment today. Three of my wheels were out of whack. This is the second alignment done on this car, and it only has 45K! I hate that, I would rather spend $60 on a strut bar or something!
