"chinking" suspension noise

cool stuff: another noise, another set of questions...

to update, clunking still exists in the left front suspension area. i checked the end links, everything looked and felt tight, though i don't officially know how to check that. it is still a noise associated with sharper bumps/impacts.

i've used the search function but couldn't find similar threads dealing with the next noise: a chinking sound like that of loose keys on a key ring. happens when i travel over any surface that's comprimised in surface smoothness (things like expansion joints, suuuper shallow "pot holes"--more like a layer of newer asphalt has eroded peeled up revealing an older layer beneath). i talked to a mechanic where i work (at an acura dealership) and he thought it could be the bearings in the upper part of the strut assembly.

the car recently had front brakes done (new pads, resurfaced rotars, new caliper assembly) before i drove from portland to l.a. the last few weeks it's started making this nice noise. any help would be appreciated. thanks much.

It definitely could be the upper strut bearings, which should be pretty inexpensive but are as complicated to replace as struts or springs.

The clunking (assuming a lower sound pitch than the "clink" you mentioned) could easily be the front sway bar bushings. If the 2g is anything like the 3g, the front bushings wear out around 75k miles and a front suspension clunk develops.

thanks a bunch! i was rummaging around on the web and found that kyb makes upper strut mount replacements. i think that would include the bearings, but i don't know. they were about 60 bucks. either way i figure i'd have to take the struts out and all just to see what i'm up against.

i'll look into replacement bushings for the end links . the clunk either existed or developed in the 70k range, so your hunch is proving true. thanks again.
