Changing to four wheel disks
 
I have a 1997 Protege lx 1.5l dohc which as you probably know come with cream of the crop drum brakes and i was wondering if it would be possible to get the stuff for the rear disk brakes from a ES model and put them on my car and all what i would need to get like a different size resevor or what not. Also are the front disk brakes on the ES model any different than the LX model?

Not sure about the reservoir, but the front brakes on ES are 9" and on DX/LX it 8".

yea i was thinking of doing the same thing to mine. i don't know about you guys but do you notice that its takes a little effort to stop our cars, and i check my brakes often, so the brakes are physically fine. who knows, maybe its just me.

Yeah, i would certainly agree with you there. My DX with 75K on it, stop on the dime everytime. Eventhough I changed front pads twice already and rotors during the last time, she still stop right on the money. Even with out ABS, I am still very confident of braking capabilities of my car.

You would need to get the master cylinder as well. Wheel cylinders (used in drum brake applications) are much smaller than caliper pistons so the master cylinders are set up to push different amounts of fluid. An adjustable proportioning valve for the rears would be a good investment as well - you could then taylor the system to your liking. In a full lock-up situation the rears should lock right after the fronts.

As for whether or not you could bolt the ES stuff on - I don't know. I imagine you could but that's just a guess.
