Brake pedal feels soft...
 

So, I finally got my '96 LX (Canadian version). One thing I notice is that there is a lot of excessive brake pedal travel before I encounter any resistance. The brake reservoir is reporting full, so I'm not getting any leaks. Any suggestions?

I had this same problem, but I let my friend (part-time mechanic) play around with them, and now they feel great. I dont know a lot about brakes, but all he said he had to do was "bleed the brakes." So if you can find someone who can "bleed the brakes" that will solve that unwanted brake pedal travel.

Thanks Jason. I was assuming the same thing. I've bled brakes on my Eagle Talon before, so a Protege should be fairly easy. It looks like the dealer just topped off the brake reservoir.

Yeah just bleed them and check the rear drums while your at it

you can try to adjust the rear calipers .You remove the 14 mm bolt on the back of the caliper(not the one that holds the hand brake cable) and inside there is a 4mm allen screw adjust this till your wheel has a slight drag and reinstall the bolt . Your brakes should be solid as a rock after this.

Yeah, bleeding the brakes should get rid of any air bubbles in the brake line causing the soft feeling. Also try to get some steel-braided brake lines which should improve the pedal feel a fair amount.
