who has folddown rear seats?
 

does anyone have them? was this an option that was available? my 97' dx does not have it and i am pissed that it doesn't. thanks.

wow... does anyone wanna trade up? ha ha... maybe i can find some rear seats from a car that has split seats and see if i can stick em in somehow... i have no clue how i'm gonna mount the latches n' stuff... am i the first one to do this mod?

funny, everyone else is going for hp, or looks or otherwise bling bling effects and i am going for more cargo room.

I just replaced the front and rear seats in my DX...all the LX/ES stuff bolts into the DX.
Picked it all up at a Pick and Pull for pretty cheap. Make sure you get the plastic trim on the outer edges of the LX/ES seats because it's different from the DX. I don't know why. I had to go back and get the LX stuff because there is no trim on the DX and it left an ugly 2 inch gap. But at least my seats are better than burlap now.

I also got the gauge cluster (with the tach), the arm rest, the remote truck release cable and the nicer interior light with the smaller map lights(this plugs in and works but doesn't fit the DX headliner)

Got that all for $110.

i was wanting to do that too, i didn't know we had bolt in seats though i was gonna have them made, that will help a lot :)

Yeah, if I knew then what I know now...DXs are all about economy. I wouldn't be surprised if they got Saran wrap air bags.

I shoulda looked a little longer and got an ES.

only the lx and es comes with fold down rear seats,, thus the dx will not have them .. wich kinda hurts ,,,
but the dx is basically (should) be the lightest Protege mainly cause it does not have anything in it that utilizes a motor

So from what you are saying, an LX model that shares all with the ES model but the engine, is actually slower then DX? :)

well yeah but a 100lbs difference may make a difference on the auto-x course or the track, but real world, we'd never notice it. but nice seats, we'll notice and all our passengers and designated drivers will notice it too. i like my dx, i don't need a nice car, just one that doen't break. you guys gotta get on motorcycles, maybe it's not for everyone, but your enthusiams for cars will dwindle b/c you will be busy drooling over things two wheeled instead of four.

EDIT: i didn't know the fold down stuff could just bolt right in. i thought you had to mess with the latchs and stuff but i'll definatly look into it. thanks to all who posted.

EDIT EDIT: it just hit me that my upgraded stereo in my sentra didn't sound as nice as my stock mazda stereo. i was very impressed and i didn't know that it was stock. it's a de-faceable even... saran wrap airbags... ha ha... i think the no tach is the cheezest.

do the dx's have ac, cause that can weigh you dowm significantly. i personally don't use the ac in my LX because i hate it and it puts mad burn on the engine. if i get rid of my ac unit, i could get somewhat close to a dx's weight.

a/c is around 50-60 lbs (mostly compressor) and it's weight in ALL the right places... the front. keep the a/c and buy a motorcycle. my dx has a/c but have yet to try it out. anyone put their battery in the truck, that makes a small difference as well.

nowkeg, who just wants to fit his ski's and bikes in the car and have a/c in the summer, heat in the winter, and defrosters and a roof on rainy days.

EDIT: and for weight savings, get roll up windows, and lose the sound deadening... i'd say ditch the sound system, but i just love music too much to suggest such an attrocity.

all models comes with it except dx...cos the dx is the base car..mines comes with 60/40

Only Protege ES/LX have the fold down rear seats.

I have noticed that my 97 Sephia's inside is very much similar to my cousin's 97 Protege DX's interior. Now, my car came with rear fold down seats. On your next trip to the junkyard, checkout the rear seats of a 95-97 Sephia (mine's LS). It might fit. If it does, it's probably cheaper than a used Mazda seat.
