squeaking noise when starting the car

hi,
i wanted to share a problem that i have come accross with my protege 1996 and wanted to know if there were any solutions. since the last one month when i start my car ( especially in the mornings/cold weather) there is a squeaking noise which continues for a minute or two and then it disappears. no rpoblems while driving the car. my mechanic told me that this is a common problem with mazdas and that it's just the enginge circulating the oil. iam not very convinced with that. Can you please suggest what the problem might be?
thanks

Ahhh, the good-old belts. Its your separtine belts that needs to be tightened. It happens all the time in the winter, change in weather always does it.

is this a prolonged squeeling noise; one long squeel? or do you mean short multiple squeaks? this just happened to me last week, a single prolonged squeeling noise that lasted no more than 10 seconds. if this is the same then i guess i should tighten my belts too!
