hmmm....alrighty, my engine's different and I'd have to take a look closer. Anyway able to confirm the location of the EGR on a 1995 1.8L DOHC, Protege?

In the first set of 3 pictures you posted, the first one shows intake bellows.
On my wifes car, the corrugated part was broken underneath (probably due to flexing when I changed/checked air filter) I have also had a dirt build up inside MAF which I cleaned out with carb cleaner (the air flows up one side and down the other internally) Its been showing 'lean bank 1' on engine code, which everyone said was O2 sensor As of today, its running great, (I only found damaged intake on Saturday and made 'temporary' repair) If the EGR is stuck closed, it would have same effect as it being blocked off which shouldn't affect idle. If its stuck open (or part open) it will cause low rpm problems. Unfortunately, I don have a 1.8 to look at. Can anyone tell me where the fuel filter is on a 2000 1.6? ( it isn't on the firewall like it says in service manual (Haynes) PJ |

so i finally got the EGR out, however it has an allen key holding the solenoid in place...I don't know where to go from here....I have been following a 'how to' and my EGR looks different from the one in the how to guide...i've taken the four phillips off(1 stripped) and now i'm deciding if i should take the allen key off....i'm kinda lost right now....
here's some pics |
Well, actually that's your Idle Air Control valve. It looks pretty carboned up and could probably be cleaned, but I've never had that off. Here's a link to a similar IAC picture:

yikes, so I removed the wrong part then.......now I look and feel really stupid...any idea where the EGR is on my car?

Look on the bright side
1) you can now answer when someone asks how to remove their IAC valve :) 2) you can clean your IAC, which looks pretty crusty with carbon I don't know exactly where it is on a '95. My guess is the same as my '00, which is on the firewall side. Maybe someone with a '95 will answer. But you do know what it looks like now from the pic, plus you know 2 bolts, 1 vacum line, and an electrical connector. Get in there with a flashlight and start looking! |
