rims or attempt klze swap?

i wasnt sure where to post this but .....

just wondering what you guys, gals too, think i should do.
im getting some $$$ and im stuck between the to.

17" rims would look sweet and have enough to buy them right out and dont have to put car out of comission for what ever lenght.

on the other hand i really really want to do the swap...i know i know big bucks i hear but it would rock.

all we have is hondas around here and my pro 1.5l doesnt quite haul ass, u know.

love my pro to much to give up on the lack of hp.

comments?
sorry about the essay.....:zzzzz:

I would put money into making the car go, instead of show. But I am pretty sure that you will need at least twice the amount of money for the 17" rims in order to do the engine swap. So, my suggestion, is put some of that money into a cat-back exhaust, or some nice lowering springs, and new struts perhaps.

does anyone know if this swap has been done? i know bruce is donig the 1.8l. some thing i am pondering if the klze is to far out of reach.
btw i have catback exhaust and kyb gr2 struts already and im waiting to make up my mind if i am going to lower with 17s. but thanx for the suggests....

Ok, in this case, I would say go for the engine swap, but I am not sure if anyone has ever put that engine into our car. Patrick Santiago, I am not sure what his handle on this forum is, though, he had a BPT engine swap in his 97, and from what he explained it was not that easy or cheap. If you are really interested, though, check out www.mx-3.com , because they have swaped this engine in their cars many times. They could perhaps tell you what you are going to need to get the swap done.

you can get a turbo for the 1.5 for about 400$ but you need to make a custom exhaust manifold.

?

does the protege have any aftermarket strenghtened parts like connecting rods and pistons and crank etc etc ?

and also what boost pressure cud the stock parts handle for a long time?

also has anyone thought about or done a tbc of the 1.5 automatic?

The reason the KLZE is often swapped into the MX3 is because there is enuff room under the hood which the 2gens dont have. Second off, the block on an mx3 V6 is the same block found on the KLZE (KL). Also don_don, since you live in Canada, you could plan a trip to www.a-spec.ca in Toronto. They are a Mazda specialist like Corksport. They have done the KL-ZE (as well as the BPT) swap into many cars including 626, 323, mx3 and escort to name a few. You could do just the KL swap (V6) instead of the KLZE to make it a little cheaper. The priceing is on the site for most of the cars (except ours) so expect pricing to be around that....

im actual gettn rims on thursday... a-spec's price of 4300cnd really isnt that bad considering what goes in to it...but that will have to wait ...looks like possibly a winter project...
im work on the show aspect for now...just found some1 to do some of the exterior mods i want to do(shave everything, custom trunk lid,z3 fenders,etc....

Bruce95fmla April-28th-2003 05:20 PM

when you get challenged at a light:
it is better to have a bitching motor and wack rims
than to have
a hooked up ride with a slow motor ...
Get that speed in there , then get the show aspect done ..
You will have a car of both worlds ,, that plain kicks ass ...
this is what I am doing
 thus my 13's (girls won't even talk to me lol)that'll change
