Protege shopping...again

Last one was for my mom, this one is for me:
1998 Protege with the 5 speed, probably just the 1.5 though, with my luck

Anyways, here's the kicker: it's a silver 1998 (1 year newer than my mom's $5000 Protege), mint physical condition, and $4000 dollars

Wait, what? $4000?

Either this is an amazing deal or some sort of lemon. What do you guys think could be wrong with it that made it so cheap? Any suggestions are good, it'd be great if I could make up my mind a bit more before shelling out 50 bucks to have it inspected by a mechanic. I gave it a quick once-over already last wednesday, I'm going back to the dealership on Monday to inspect it myself, if I like what I see and hear, Wednesday is the big "test drive-inspection-$$$" day.

I'm in a hurry to get a car like this because I'm a student, I go car shopping at the neighbourhood dealers on my spares and I need a car to get to work from school.

Opinions please! ;peace;

Ya. Second gens go for way cheap, but are good cars (mine has been problem free after usual timing belt/water pump replacement and a sticky throttle problem). Got it for $4300 with 71k miles. LX=tach, CD, and AC standard. All work very well. Tell me that's not a deal. :) I hope it does well for you, firelizard.

All still good so far, I just popped a 100 watt sub in the trunk (with no amp), yay! my first mod :D
I guess my car isn't an LX because it doesn't have a tach. It does have a CD player (factory) and AC though. Unfortunately the one CD I tried in it got spit back out and wouldn't play...perhaps it's too old fashioned for my burnt CDs or something like that, I've encountered similar things with my old boombox. Looks like it's aftermarket or bust after all.

Oh, what do you guys think I should do first: ignition, intake, exhaust, or coil-overs/shocks?
