protege OEM cd player problems
Hey there-
I recently purchased a '98 protege and the stock cd player has stopped working. Whenever I put in a cd now (both burned and stamped) after a few seconds it spits it back out. I have some inkling that it's an issue with condensation on the lens, but whenever I run the car for awhile with the temp up, it doesn't seem to help. I've tried lens cleaners, etc, etc. Any help would be *most* appreciated. Driving around without music sucks:) Thanks, Javier |
No help for the player, but while you wait, you could use the radio.

Mine came the same way...broke...I was going to try to have it fixed or buy an aftermarket one until I looked on Ebay. Here's one I just bought at $26:
ebay CD player...cheap! I've gotten four of them now... (a)one for my originally busted Protege (b)one for my roommates Ford Ranger after hers was stolen when it was broken into...bought a pre-made harness for $10, plugged right in. (c)found a package cassette deck w/slave CD unit....now in the Protege (d)wanted a CD player for my ghetto wagon. It's been pimpin' an early 90s Ford cassette deck for 8 years now. Time to upgrade and cheap is the operative term. I haven't spent over $40(before shipping) on any one of them. Save yourself an install headache and buy the little U-shaped Ford din style removal tool. As a complete audio/protege novice I had the old deck out in less then a minute. The tool can be found just about anywhere...even Wal Mart in the automotive/stereo section for just a few bucks. So don't even mess with the old one or spend the money on an aftermarket unit... |
My suggestion is to just buy a nice, new Kenwood stereo and put it in. They slide right in and look 50 times better than the ugly stock players.
