Noise When Accelerating?????

Okay, my g/f's car has been making this high pitch noise when hard accelerating. The noise is directly related to hitting the accelerator but it's too hard to discribe what the noise sounds like.

Could it be the throttle cable or something?

Any help would be appreciated.

is it a high pitch whining? does it come when you first start the car? If so, try checking your belts...they might need some tightening

does it ping??? or make a whining noise??? if it pings hard maybe your timing is off...try to check the timing just incase...if it pings of course...

I also get a high-pitched whinning from my engine at about 5500 rpm and up.... It just started recently, and the only thing I have done to my engine recently is replaced the old spark plugs with some new platinum plugs...

Any ideas?????

The noise is a cross between a high pitched ping / whine. It sounds like a wire is being over streched. It only happens when hard accelerating, and it doesn't matter if the car is cold or warmed up.

It's definitely not the radio cause the noise is coming from the engine bay.

How do you check the timing?

The car is close to 150,000km so changing the distributor cap, rotor and check the timing is need soon. Would this help?

Well, I got the problem diagnosed. It's the catalytic convertor. It makes the rattling noise during the rpm range of 2000-3500. Since it costs +/-$1400 to replace, I think I'll wait till it falls off before I even think about replacing it.

At least I know what the noise is and I'll just have to live with it.
