Jdm 1.5dohc

my car just a stock 1996 1.5 DOHC auto with a K&N replacement filter and customed airbox.
Do you think i can beat a stock1993 1.5dohc manual lancer?
(0 to 100)

turbonium959 August-31st-2003 09:19 AM

That would depend on how good of a driver of the lancer is, and how much less or more then your car lancer weighs.

familiase September-1st-2003 06:24 AM

well, my one is a base special edition, I think is quite light, becoz theres not much equipment inside my car.
you know the approximate time 0-100 for my car?

i have a 1.5L dohc 5 speed and i ran the 1/4 in 17.3 seconds

not impressive
my worst run was 17.8

sohc civic ex's are faster

the 1.5 is an economy engine, not a peformance engine. i've done a considerable amount of modification to my 1.5 and i still dyno at 140hp.

some modifications:
ported head; intake and exhaust manifold inlets
polished valves
increase in compression ratio via thinner (1.6mm) headgasket
cleaned up messy (noisy) electrical connections to the distributor
adjustable cam gears
plugs, wires, rotor, cap, all high performance...
removed cat & resonator, hi-flo cat planned to be installed where stock was removed.
1800kw alternator
clutch master stage 1
short shifter
vpro timing computer & fuel delivery control
tornado ionizer
oil cooler

thats about what it takes to get 40 more horsepower from a 1.5, about $1000 in parts and weeks of work. if someone would make stronger pistons, rings, valves, lifters, other fun internal goodies, i wouldn't mind putting those in either, but my fuel delivery system is ready for 15+ pounds of boost, but either the headgasket will blow or rings will fry if I boost higher. The car isn't capable of much speed. I still top out at a pathetic 110mph. My friends supra has no trouble hitting 150.

ur car dynoed at 140 at the wheels?

familiase September-22nd-2003 12:26 AM

oh....wow...thats alot of work done on ur car~~
i have done nothing to my car...just air filter and custom airbox..haha...
and another thing..well..my old car 1989 Lancer SOHC..has a roundish airfilter....i think they call carb..is it?
the reaction is faster than my familia b4 i mod the airbox..Why is this?
but after i modify the airbox of my familia...reaction is way faster than b4!!!! Is the "ring" air filter has a quicker reaction?
I want to mod my familia so it has quite a good performance..
Do u think it can reach around 150hp, 1/4mile around 15-16sec?
how much work do i need to put on? my one is an auto..but quite light..coz is special edition

you will never exceed 140hp without forced air induction. i'm a living example of one knowing the limits of this engine. i have done every conceivable modification OTHER than turbo, and i dyno at exactly 139hp (at the wheels, stock 14" protege rims & lemans 185/55/14).

With a turbo you will not exceed 170hp, your trans will quickly give out, since its built for 100hp. even with a manual trans you would be pushing the limits exceeding 170hp. thats why mazda limited the boost of the MAZDASPEED protege to 6psi. they know the transmission is an off-the-shelf oem part and was originally designed to be used on cars between 96hp and 140hp. you can put a great clutch in it and everything, but the housing and the gears are built for hard torque.

hey samus....

yo moded your 1.5L up to 139 hp???

if so i have question for you bro...
like what did you do, and was it worth it?
and did u loose massive amounts of torque?

Holy fuck thats not THE tornado that you have is it??

The MSP wasn't meant to be a power monster. it was meant to be an all around well balanced machine that whose power didn't exceeed handling an braking performance. It also has the G15M-R tranny which I believe is "the good one" they can handle around 350 Ftlbs of torque before they go south.
I bet you'd get more than 140 WHP without turbo if you had a good standalone system. Same with more than 170WHP Turboed with a good standalone. You didn't list them so I'll assume that you've got the stock cams. THere are aftermarket cams available. Yes, they aren't sold in the U.S. but if you're willing, I beleive the company is from NZ or Australia or something.
Even the F series transmission isn't that bad you should be able to get ~ 200 Ftlbs of torque out of it.

wait wait....

are we talking about the 1.5L still??

Ice Box September-22nd-2003 11:12 PM

Ill later make a post about automatic racing, but you can definatly do it,
1 to 2 to D
from thier its all up to your engineen,

more info in a little bit

familiase September-22nd-2003 11:56 PM

sweeet as....
but..are auto actually THAT slow?
some ppl are saying manual are REALLY fast..even with da same engine.....but i dun quite believe it

Ice Box September-23rd-2003 01:42 PM

No its not that slow, but it is harder to win, just try and make your car all it can be without as said above out doing it. And you can still race
