ES Instrument Panel Install Question

I know that some of you guys have taken an instrument panel or cluster from an ES and put it into an SE model. I know it's been done here, and there are some instructions, but i can't find them. But what i want to know is from someone who has done it allready. After it's installed, do all the warning lights work. Example, the f**kin gas light (can't believe they don't have it) also there is a windshield washer fluid light, door open warning etc that my stupid cluster doesn't have.

Also, can someone post the link to it. I think it was Bruce who has done it, so this might be pointed to you Bruce. ;)

I have recently taken my cluster out only to put Indiglo Gauges for the DX model (1.5L in US), and as far as I can remember, it is plug-and-play. There are only three connectors that go into the cluster, and I believe they are the same on ES and the other DX/LX models.

P.S. You will not be able to reset the mileage on the new cluster. It will display what ever mileage it had on the other car before it was taken off. The only way is through a dealer, and they will reset to zeros, and place a sticker on your car with your old mileage.

ICE BOX.. What??

Hey Ice Box,
Exactly what are you talking about? You are really gettin me confused. I didn't buy the instrument panel yet. Still shoppin for it.
But was wondering if all the warning lights will work if i install it into a car that didn't have it before. Right now i have the simple stupid one that has a gas guage, temp guage and spedometer, and i wanna put in the one with the Tachometer and all the warning lights. I guess my question is, Is all the wiring in the car? Ie for the gas guage, the low warning light, windshield washer etc.
Can i actually replace my panel with an entire other one that has working lights. Meaning not from Mazda?? With a tachometer. because the whole goal is to get a tachometer that doesn't have to stick off my dashboard.

I belive the answer to your question is all the wires do lead up to the dash board, just need to mark them, i think thats what your asking. Just follow them up from the engine and you should be fine

Murcielago:

All the wires are there, for either model. Its just on the lower end model, they are disabled. If you were to get a cluster with a tach on it, it will plug right in, and work the same. The only difference there will be is mileage output. Thats it.

sa-weeeeet!

That's exactly what i wanted to know..
Thnx Boyz.

I got someone who can adjust the mileage to whatever u want.

I put a 97 LX cluster with a tach into my 98 DX(had no tach)...it's all plug and play and everything works except the auto o/d light doesn't come on.
Is that hurting the mpg in my 5sp?

You know how to adjust the digital odometer? Or are we talking a 95-96 gear driven?

Adjust mileage

Yeah, i'm told this guy will be able to set the DIGITAL odometer to whatever i want. I will ofcourse let u know.

And yeah, i know it's for fraud, but i will set it to the mileage of my car..

Also, i didn't know u could put a instrument panel from a 97 into a 98 protege.. cool.. more options for me.. ;)
