Cut'n'Dried Strut'n'Coilin

Howdy guys,

I have a 95 Protege and I've had some problems with my Struts and coils.

My struts went bad, so naturally i set out to fix them... myself :D

so... I got coils from Napa (supposedly my coils were heated or cut or something crazy like that and as everything that goes wrong with my car, i blame it on the previous owner..) nevertheless the coils would not fit with the strut i got from checker (monroe) and the cap (thats what i'll call it, it fits at the top of the strut). So I asked a friend and he said what some (retarted) people did sometimes when they cut springs was go to a junk yard and get a new cap for the strut because the diameter of the coil changed, soo...

I ordered a new cap which I had to first day air from timbucktoo and it still did not fit the coil from Napa, so I ordered another set of coils from my local Mazda Dealership ($$$) and they still did not work!

After all this I took the car into a shop, where they also ordered new coils, struts and caps from the dealership, which were all the same as mine from Napa!

So i ended up putting the old coils and old caps on my new struts,

My question is, Has anyone else had this problem? is there some revision in the 95 suspension that took place at a different time or something? This ones got me stumped.

I know in Canada( not sure about US spec) the 1st and 2gen Protege was available in 95 as a Protege S(1 gen) and Protege dx es lx and gt (2 gen ) could you have parts for the wrong model?
