Check engine light

My mom's 96 check engine light came on. Can someone tellme how to pull those codes

thanks

Stop by a local Auto Zone, they will give you codes and I think the reason also, over all you should get a huge print out from them.

I got code 420 and code 440. Both are related to the emission control system. Anyone know what they are?

Well, I can take a guess, and that could be your's O(xygen)2 sensors. There are two of them there.

You do not need a pic. All you need to do is to turn your key into position right before you start the car. That should turn almost all the lights on the cluster. Check engine light should be yellow, and located towards the left side.

hmmm

nope no yellow lights in my guage cluster
is it the symbol that looks like an overheating bag or something?

can u post a pic?

I just went and checked a friend's guage cluster and no light there either
i guess only the american models have it

last time i got my throttle body cleaned the guy bridged some pins on the diagnosis box and the hold button flashed a certain amount of times giving a code i think

Does that work with OBD II cars? Ive been doing that on OBD I cars for years

Check Engine lights

Lemme tell ya, i've seen them. 3 times with my lil' protege.
First time, unplugged the battery and it came back on. Second time they changed my PCV Valve, then it came back on. And they changed my EMISSION CONTROL SOMETHING or OTHER. And it's been on..
Hey if you wanna see your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT you could stall your car, and you'll see it then. Or, you will see it like turbonium959 said. It looks like an engine block. Check your MANUAL and you will see where it should be and what it should look like..

BE AWARE.... My check engine light does not come on. It's a 95-96 second generation. The CEL (Check Engine Llight) is on the left side of the tachometer. When I bought it, it also was off. One day I took my instrument cluster out and noticed that there was a bulb in the ABS plug and I said to myself "I don't have ABS!" and noted that the bulb was changed from the CEL plug to the ABS plug thus disabling the CEL light. It could also be burnt out. So BE AWARE.
