Bumper repair cost

The other day, my mom took the car to get an oil change and a bit later, she noticed a deep scratch on the bottom driver's side corner of the front bumper. It's pretty bad, the black plastic underneath is exposed and the biggest scratch is at least 6 inches long, although there are scratches over an area of about 10 inches(sorry, don't have any pictures). She suspected the mechanic had accidentally damaged it while driving it or working on it (nobody had ever seen that scratch there before, and we'd all inspected the car) so she took it back to the garage where the owner said he'd cover the cost of the repairs, which would be done at a bodyshop he had some connections to. Today my mom went back and asked how much it would cost for the repair, and he said it would be around $600. My mom and I both found this to be a pretty big figure considering he was just going to patch it up. Anybody have an idea of what it should cost?

should be free if mechanic is the one who fucked it up..... otherwise 600 to do some patch up work is alot.

Dude, you could buy a brand new bumper for $600. Anyway, if the scratches are not too deep it should be a $50 paint job in your neighborhood's paint and body shop.

im surprised the mechanic didnt try to give you some bull about what happened....
like, i dunno, "oh that must've happened when you were parked...it wasnt me...."

like, this one time, my auto teacher was working on a van, and it was on jack stands, and they were moving it....so the van slips off the jacks, and one of them rupters the gas tank, so my auto teacher just told the owner of the van that gas tanks only last a few years until they need replacing....and the guy believed him.....

so the lesson here, always inspect your vehicle before and after, and always go to the mechanic when you think something fishy is up....

and $600 is alot, i'd see what he was planning on doing before you even think about paying that bill

This thread is ancient, it's been fixed for over a year
The mechanic was footing the bill, he just told my mom it was gonna cost him 600
