Keyhole door replacement
My key hole door, the part of the lock that slides away
when inserting a key has fallen apart. Made of plastic.
Does anyone know/has done a replacement. I can take the
door panels off, and I don't think it would be too
difficult to fix, as I have done this on a older car.
The lock still works, but with winter around the
corner, I need to fix it so the lock part won't get ruined.

The same thing happened on my drivers side door lock. You will need to replace the entire lock assembly, BUT, the key will be different. You can have a locksmith "rekey" the new lock, or you can purchase a whole new lockset and replace all the keys on the car, including the ignition key. Probably more trouble than it's worth. I just removed the broken key door with a shop vac and a paper clip to pursuade it out of the lock without taking anything apart. It seems fine.

KEY HOLE DOOR
Stop by your local Mazda dealer and have them order one if they don't have it in stock. They do sell an updated cover made of metal. Mazda has a TSB out for the repiair. #09-011/00, and the part no. is B25D-58-49X.

Its the outer cover that went bad, not the lock.
You mentioned a TSB and a part number. Is that a recall
problem? And if it is not, how do you fix it. I'll be
dammed if I'm gonna pay em 200 bucks to install
that keyhole cover...lol
I noticed that the number of the TSB was 00 in the numbers,
is that for the year 2000?

It is not a recall from Mazda, just a service bulletin. Most dealers should charge about an hours labor plus the part. As far as the number "00" goes, that just when the TSB was released.

Keyhole Door Update
I just got done fixing the keyhole door flap and the lock
itself.
The keyhole door flapper is originally made of plastic. The
replacement flapper and cover is made of metal and costs
about 6 bucks at mazda.
Here is the breakdown of what I had to do to get to that
keyhole flapper and the lock itself working again.
1. Remove the screws holding the door panel on.
1. remove the door release handle screw.
2. remove the hidden screw behing the plastic cover
this is near the bottom and towards the locking
hinge.
3. remove the screw the pocket pocket door handle
4. remove the plastic screw located near the mirror
adjustment stick.
5. remove the clip holding the window lever crank handle
total time about 5 minutes
2. carefully lift out the door panel, taking care to rotate to slide
the door handle lever assembly through the hole in the panel.
3. peel back the plastic located at the door handle are
on the inner panel.
4. remove the door lock shaft from the assembley. This is the
part that moves when you turn the lock.
5. pull back on the spring that holds the lock to the door handle.
6. pull out the door lock.
7. The new part comes with a cover and a new lock flapper.
8. remove the chrome lock cover.
9. remove the lock flapper.
10. install the new flapper
11. install the chrome lock cover.
thats it, now assemble in reverse order and there you have it.
One final note if bits of plastic become lodged in the lock itself,
as in my case, rendering the lock inoperable ( the key won't
fit into the lock all the way ), you must take the lock apart,
and being very careful, remove each lock key, 4 on top
and 4 on bottom. If a bit of plastic is jamming up a lock
key, then I used a dental pick to work it out. Relube the lock
keys, check the tiny springs too, and reassemble the keys in the
right order on both the top and bottom of the lock itself.
Then reassemble the lock and check to make sure the key
fits all the way and the lock works.
When I did mine I used a parts cleaner spray to remove all
dirt inside the lock housing and relubed the entire lock and
lock keys.
This is what took me the longest to do. About an hour, to remove
all bits of broken plastic that were jamming up a lock key. And
putting it back together.
I spent a couple of hours, but took my time doing it. Having
patience for taking apart the lock itself and not messing up
the order of the lock keys.
The result, like new lock performance and a new keyhole
flapper to keep out the elements this winter. I will not
fix the passenger door lock until it goes!!

Door lock key, and 95's solution...
I have a '98 Protege LX (power locks), and my driver's side door lock has stopped functioning...seems jammed.
I noticed a post above in which one person simply used a vacuum to suck out the plastic pieces which had apparently broken within the locking mechanism? My vaccum doesn't have enough force for this, but I do have a couple more questions...
If there's a plastic piece which has broken inside the locking mechanism, doesn't it need to be replaced? (Why they use plastic parts inside a lock escapes me completely.)
Should I just order a new lock cylinder (around $40) and try to replace that myself, or will I have to then spend MORE $$$ to have a locksmith re-key everything?
I found obx's post especially interesting as well, and he has been more than helpful, but I still cannot understand whether I need to buy something to replace a broken plastic something-or-other. I want to know what I need before I take the whole thing apart.

the only door lock that works on mine is the drivers side, and sometimes the trunk if i cry really hard.
(Since my car is a girl crying makes it valnurable... i think... is that the way it goes in real life? cause i need a girl..... bad.... too much timne sitting here putting messages... girl... girl... girl... mmmmmm. and why the hell do all the girls in my neighborhood have nice cars? dammit i cant even show off these days, how am i ever suppost to get laid!?!?!?!)
