98 protege engine light came on
The engine light on my 98 protege came on the other day. Before I take it to the dealer to have it check, i've looked under the hood to see if i can find anything that went wrong under the hood that could cause the light to come on. I then found an air hose that was cracked. I went out and bought a new piece and replaced it. It was also due for new brakes and oil change. So i did all that. After doing all that, I go and turn on the car, and the engine light flashes twice and it turned off. My question is, do you think i should still take it to the dealer to get it checked anyways, even though the light turned off or I shouldn't bothered taking it to the dealer since the engine light turned off? Thanks in advance.

So, the light does not turn on anymore?
Or does it turn ON aand then go off. Many times is good to do a search with the words check engine light adn you'll find plenty of threads about the topic. I am goin to suggest, many know this, to disconnect the positive cable from the battery for a minute or so. Then press the brake pedal a few times. At least it works like that on the first gen Protege. Some vehicle even after the repair has been done, the C E Light stays on like on VW's and Nissan Maximas. Then, thats when you need to take it a specialized tech to reset the ECM. Good luck |
Maybe you have the same problem I had. For me the light came on because I hadn't tightened my gas cap enough. Make sure it clicks a bunch. I just got someone to reset the light and I was fine.
