96 Protege Problems

Well the Protege is the wife's car but it has been acting up lately. I think it is the CV joints because not only does it clicks sometimes when you make a full turn but it also sounds like something is grinding when you drive normally. The grinding/squealing sound doesn't happen all the time but I can hear it if I turn the radio down.

Oh yeah the air filter hose is cracked so I was wondering if there are any good inexpensive intake systems out there? If not can't I just go to the junkyard and get another air filter hose, rig up a K&N cone filter and some how fit the sensor on?

The Protege also seems to have an exhaust leak but I don't know where since I haven't put it on a lift yet...too busy with my Neon :) Again any inexpensive but good exhaust systems out there, meaning headers/cat/cat-back.

Well other than that our Protege is just the average get around car. It does have 260,000 miles so we try to take it easy with it. Every now and then I am forced to drive it while my car is in the shop.

you sound enthused,,, forced to drive it ,,,,,

call mazdaautorecycling.com they should have the factory intake pipes you need..

change your axles ,, before they break ... If you put the neon in the shop take the time to put the protege in the shop or at least check up on it , with 260K worth of mileages , things will break and be worn ,, so maintenance is required , as with any car

Yeah I deserved that one

Yeah my bad about the comment. There are things I like about it but from an racer's perspective its hard to find any that I like or agree with. HEY it does have pw/pl/and cruise control that my Neon doesn't have!

The Protege doesn't have any warranty like the Neon does so putting in the shop will suck out some money. I'm fairly competent so I'll probably do it myself once I pick up a book at the local parts shop.
