1998 Protege SE fuel millage

Hi guys,

I bought a 1998 Protege SE 2 months ago. It has 92000km, but I think it cost's me a lot of gas for the millage I do. Can you guys tell me your fuel millage.

Here's mine:

City : 320km
Highway : 520km

Thank's for answering.

I got about 522km on a tank that was like 95% highway driving, the fuel light had come on and was still a few KM before I filled up.
In the City, I usually don't let my tank get below half or so, but I can easily get 250km with lead footed driving, standing in traffic etc.... I've got the 1.8l though. I did notice however that when my fuel light came on a couple weeks ago, to fill it up took 39 litres. The tank is 50 litres. I know that when the fuel light comes on you've usually got a bit of a reserve, but I didn't know that it was 10 litres. I probably could have gone another day or more with the light on, but my driving during the week consists of about 8 km round trip to work and thats usually all.
one of these days I'm actually going to take the time to figure it out by using how much fuel the tank takes on fill up and what my trip odo says rather than what my gauge says because
I think its a little inaccurate.

I think my fuel millage is normal then:)

with about 70% highway, and shifting @ 3500rpm i could get about 580 per tank

murcielago September-11th-2003 02:51 PM

same as me

Hey buddy,
Actually u should look up in the history, i asked the same question before. And it's pretty much average. Actually i usually get about 350 per tank city driving, sometimes less (a lil heavy on the pedal) wait till winter it gets worse. But read up.

FUEL LIGHT???

Hey, i have a 98 SEI (cdn edition i guess) and i don't have a FUEL light??
I guess it's my stupid guage cluster (no tachometer) unless it's burnt out. Does anyone else have FUEL light with a 98 protege with no TACHOMETER??

Pigeon September-11th-2003 06:11 PM

i have no tachometer

im not sure if i dont have a fuel light...

fuel light

I never saw a fuel light light on either. I don't even have a light to indicate if a door is not well closed. The SE model is pretty simple in equipement.

You SHOULD have a fuel light. it doesn't come on when you turn the ignition on like say, the check engine, oil etc. you'd only see it when the fuel level gets that low. But then again, maybe you don't have one.

nah..

Unfortunately we have the model that doesn't have the door indicator, fuel light and washer warning light.. And no VANITY mirrors..

Painful..

I GOTTA GET THAT INSTRUMENT PANEL..

thats good to know...

considering i used to run my car till the light came on but the light never came on... cause I DONT HAVE ONE

oh well, thats bad for it anyways

I get about 300 miles to a tank. I use about 10-11 gallons before I fill back up, light comes on after I use 10.8 gallons I've figured buy filling right when the lights comes on.

I don't consistantly get that. Infact, I get better mileage in the city than on the highway, because I drive so fast on the highway I'm always around 3500+ RPM. Fuel efficiency drops off crazy after 3000RPM. In the city I'm rarely above 3000.

over 500 km per tank

Hey,
Just got back from a weekend doing over 1300 km. You can easily get 500km plus on a tank of gas. First tank i got 500km and there was still enough for another 20 km or so easily. THe second time i got 500 km and there was still just a little under a quarter tank (but the way back i was going about 120) SO, probably could have gotten about 600 km on that tank. But i always fill up with Midgrade gas, i find it lasts longer.
