Z5 / B6 Compatibility

I have this B6-ME ('92-'93 MX-3 SOHC 16v 88hp) in my shed,
and was wondering if anyone had any idea if I could use it
in a '95-'98 Protege. As far as I know, it was bolted to an
F-type tranny.

I'm looking at a classified ad locally for a '98 Protege that
needs an engine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you want to know if it will just "bolt up" ,the answer is no

Thanks for the reply, although vague.

I understand there may be some issues. On the other hand, knowing Mazdas as I do, I would consider it a long shot for the Z5 computer to be able to run the B6 as-is, but not outside the realm of possibility. After all, there is only a 4hp difference between the two engines, and Mazda throttle-bodies, distributors, etc. tend to be interchangeable.

Can you offer any more detailed insights? I'm not some wild-eyed kid wanting to drop a V8 into a Yugo.

Thanks

the ECU will not work...OBD I vs OBD II computer...trannies are not exactly the same either...Granted they are F-series, but not the same bell housing
